Opinions on possible back-up All Blacks 10s

Jesus, can we please move on from Havili at 10? If it’s said often enough it might happen and that would be disastrous. And if he ends up having to play there for the Saders they are fucked. I don't want him anywhere near the Black 10 jersey.

Halfpenny sparked rumours this week as he expressed an open interest in the No 10 jersey vacated by Mo’unga, although emphasised he is very much a fullback at heart.
Penney shut down the chat over any potential shift, and also denied any likelihood of seeing David Havili move into first five-eighth.

Looks like he's only had one start at 10 (maybe he moved there late in other games?)
It was early in SR 2020 against the Chiefs. The Chiefs won 25-15
From memory he looked good in the first half (and TJ was furiously masterbating) then he faded in the second half

That's quite possible. My memory is that whenever Dave's been at 10, we've lost - and that it's been more than once.
I'm pretty sure he's never started at 10 for the Mako (or, more accurately, I don't remember it happening), so it's a pretty thin body of work to even be mentioned as an option for the Crusaders, let alone the ABs.

However the rumour is that he'll have first shot at the Crusaders. If you are starting regularly for a SR side you aren't that far away.
Only 5 SR sides & the ABs will pick 3 10's

I think they'll give the young first fives first go and would only go to DH if they completely self-destruct.
Havilli will be 2nd five,Penny will give Kemera first go I think,If he doesn't step up Reihana will be next option.
They will use Havilli to guide the young First fives from 2nd five,, I think Hotham may be starting HB. -
if DH is starting at 12 for the Crusaders then they should not be favourite for the comp

Yeah Havilli is not keen on First Five and the thinking is I heard Havilli will be better off guiding the young First five on his outside.
With Heinz really not being able to be carried in 2025 at the age of 38 and Drummond will be 31 then so they need to blood another HB in 2025,
the need is to Start Hotham to get him established, Kemera and Hotham have played a fair bit together at school and NZ u/20s,
so I assume they are hoping there is a ready made connection between the 2. -

I know most teams will have similar stories but just from the HIghlanders, Millar and withy got starts last year for us
this year, hastie, haig, faleafaga and bell should all get starts, thats just off the top of my head

Two new ABs were pretty much new to SR this year but not from the saders....

Yeah, I just meant that the cru are giving opportunities to youngsters in DECISION-MAKING positions (9, 10, 12).
Of course, for every great selection the Crusaders have made over the years, they're also responsible for wacky ideas that were adopted by AB coaches e.g:

The AB selectors are responsible for wacky ideas as you call it,and there have been plenty of those fuck ups,selections from a lot of teams.Nope, didn't say Crusaders were responsible for AB selections. The cru management decided on those experiments at super level and then for unknown reasons the AB selectors thought that these same ideas would work at test level.
