Opinions on possible back-up All Blacks 10s

I hope the Canes will give Godfrey plenty of time at 10. He has all the attributes of a good 10, but he only got the starts there for Hurricanes U20. He was named player of the tournament for a good reason, but before he got injured, he started at fullback in the NPC. For NZ U20s, he also started at fullback and was then moved to 10 when they took Kemara off. Each time, that was an improvement. I want to know whether he can be a good 10 at SR level, so we can see whether he should be considered for higher honours at 10 (rather than 15). Not necessarily in 2024.

Perofeta will get his shot at 10 for the Blues to show whether or not he will make the ABs grade.
Who is going to be the goal-kicker for the Blues? That is still a weakness for Perofeta as he is very hot and cold.
Another 1st 5 that is still in NZ and hasn't been mentioned yet is Josh Ioane. I've no idea how much time at 10 he will get at the Chiefs but he does have international experience.
-
@Kiwiwomble I think there must have been other issues that led to him leaving. The fact that the Chiefs have re-signed Ioane after his initial 1-yr deal suggests it wasn't just him.

If BB starts at 10 again for the ABs i'll kick a cat

It will be a bad day for cats then,I will be kicking a few cats if that happens.

Perofeta didn't even get time at 10 for the Naki
3 starts at 10 plus he moved from fullback to 10 later in a lot games
Him playing at 15 was more about getting him and Jacomb on the field at the same time
If he doesn't get the nod in that situation it doesn't fill me with confidence

This Godfrey fellow is not from the Hawkes-Bay by any chance is he?
Just a hunch. -

A sure thing I reckon, BB will flit around SR playing whatever position he appears to like and will do the same for the AB's as after all, playing 10 at international rugby is just like riding a bicycle.
What's this you say? Someone from another team has been riding a specialized downhill mountain bike fine tuning their skills and making minute adjustments to increase their speed year on year and might possibly be faster?
Preposterous!! How could that ever compare to BB occasionally getting on his bike on a casual jaunt to the dairy to pick up a carton of milk whenever it so suits him? He was world player of the year you know? No one could possibly be faster.

@Bovidae still amazes me that being a squad player at the chiefs (so it appears) was more attractive than fighting it out for the 10 jersey with us
Brown wanted rid? I thought that was pretty clear at the time. Bridges were never really mended after that night on the booze. I'll never forget the infamous comment on Sky Sport either about the shorts sizes...

@Duluth If it was a tactical decision by the Naki that's understandable.
However I struggle to understand how not playing at 10 would then increase your chances of getting selected there for the AB's.
It's called the Blackadder rule.

So not play in that position and get injured for long periods of the season will see him as a certainty for selection? Gotcha

Apparently some people think the ABs are selected on NPC game time
-
Cashmore needs to get significant game time at SR level first. In my mind, I think he will need a couple of years still to be honest, even if he is tracking on an upward trajectory.

I donβt think a Barrett would ever have to actually pay for Milk. Ridiculous analogy.
-
@MN5 That'll teach me for trying to come up with an analogy relatable to the common man.
May be if I replace "carton of milk" with "a bottle of fizzy drink and a pack of cigs for his Mum" that would be more colloquial??
On the assumption the Barret's don't have business interests in the soda or tobacco industries so they'd never have to buy them either.
