If Josh Lord manages to gain a few kilos of muscle, then he could well be the incumbent, alongside Scott Barrett. When is Holland eligible. He's the one with the highest ceiling, IMO.

@cgrant Lord should already be the incumbent, he's got enough size.

Too skinny. Pari Pari Parkinson is a much better bet

Classic line from a Herald article

Tupou Vaa’i is the latest in a string of formidable locks for the All Blacks. Vaa’i has filled in superbly when his number has been called.

That's hilarious. He's probably the most underwhelming AB lock I have ever seen, even more so than Isaac Ross.

Agree with first sentence. Second... harsh

    P.S. was a fanboi ... of both ...

Especially if we want to continue losing.

Well we have 47 months to dry the powder out again right?

@akan004 At least Isaac Ross copped criticism for his performances.

One guy who is a bit of a forgotten man is TJ Perenara.

Not his biggest fan but I wonder if he's a chance if they are looking for experience in one of their 3 halfbacks with Smith and Weber gone.

I didn't realise that he's still only 31! Pity he didn't kick on as well as he could.

Bollocks TJ has been awesome, he was great last year before injury. He was def #2 until he was injured.

Wtf? It's hardly controversial to state that TJ didn't exactly become a world beater. Are you seriously going to argue he was awesome in black?

I think lord is a good looking prospect talent wise ,

Needs a few years in the gym and on the steaks though, but only 22

Probably lacking that big bodied lock to partner Barrett for now

A bit sad in that whole era of Sam and Brodie , only scooter emerged as another option .

I thought Lord looked like he had put on some good size this year when he came back, but missed out.

I think game time was his biggest hurdle to make the RWC this year so I think.next year he will be a key figure if he doesn't pick up any more injuries

Yes, he had a really crap period, got dropped, and came back very strong afterwards. He's a cut above fucking Christie, that's for sure

He looked even bigger in the NPC than he did when he was with the ABs. I remember Brodie saying before the Twickenham test that he's the heaviest lock in the ABs (which I found hard to believe). Really hope he can step up and remain injury free.

@KiwiMurph yeah 100%. He’s been the form 13 in NZ for a year now and deserves his opportunity.

@Machpants yeah TJ was average by his standards but I still would of had him above Christie. He did save our blushes against Scotland before getting that injury though.

Agreed, I’ve never understood what all the fuss is about Vaa’i. We should defs not hold all our hopes and dreams on him.

Yeah considering I don’t watch the highlanders ( even though they are my second team according to a recent fern poll ) I don’t really know what I’m talking about to be fair.

@Bovidae Not a fan of either but quite possibly. We're not exactly blessed with massive amounts of depth there currently.

For the first time in a long long time, SR form will most likely have a big bearing on a lot of selections.

PPP is a big boy for sure, but he plays like Jane. Not someone you would select if you are looking for starch. Who knows, if he gets an injury free run he may change.
