seeing so many people mention there is even a chance this will be considered one of the best RWC make me realise how disconnected ive become
I was in the UK in 2007 and NZ for all the others, i kind of felt this one was....meh...but realise that might largely because im in Aus...where almost no one cares, even around the rugby club, group chat gets some traffic but thats it
anyway, no changes, have to back the guys that have gone through the knockout games i think, as much as i know that means sticking with christie, the team is clicking more than ive seen in 4-5 years so have to go with it
It has been a great RWC. 4 great quarter finals with 2 all time great games. A close semi final and leading to the great RWC final we have wanted for 28 years.
Certainly better than most.

@stodders Porter was legitimately penalised for scrumming illegally, a prop destroying his opposition player does not need to scrum illegally.
If Jackman truly believes Lomax was turning Porter in then he's just confirming Porter was getting outplayed by Lomax.
The Irish pundits have been embarrassing when it comes to the scrums in that match.

Unless they are real die hard and the sort of fan that bleeds rugby and will wake up at any hour to watch, then you’re not going to hear much about the RWC in OZ. The weekend warrior that likes to play doesn’t necessarily fit that description.
I know plenty of players and fans where this RWC is a bit of an afterthought. Combination of Wallabies not doing well, the time the games are on, but I think the bigger factor being they are just more committed to domestic sporting codes.
Other than the cricket team and the odd bit of football (when the latter play at home), I’ve seen the general interest in international sport wane in terms of chatter and interest in recent years.

@Kiwiwomble just a correction there bud. we didn't leave Super Rugby.. you guys threw us out so we had to make do with NH and we are okay with that now.
We still miss playing SR but it is what it is.
I'm hoping for an epic game and I'm hoping we have enough energy left ... I am guessing that our coaches will play a few fresh legs this weekend. Can see a few surprises this time around.
Best wishes

I've been struck by how low-key it's been in the UK too. The 6N's seemed to generate more excitement this year. Whether that's because England, Wales etc, were written off by everyone I don't know.

@Victor-Meldrew Around Watford and North London I don’t think I’ve overheard a single conversation among strangers about this RWC. There was more interest in previous RWCs than this one.
It might be different out in the shires, but football (then cricket, then perhaps tennis) is the dominant sport of interest around here.

Someone mentioned it last week, but now it's confirmed the ABs are playing SA, are one of the teams going to have to play in an alternative strip? Fucking stupid if that's the case. Is it decided by a coin toss?

It’s only Monday,
Jezz it’s going to be a slow week
I'll be naming my team on Tuesday at 1pm NZT. I would normally name it today but there's an additional day. Exciting times
Apparently a sauce has already leaked it ...

Team I’d name for the Final against the Old Foe.
Du Groot, Taylor, Lomax, Retallick, S.Barrett, Frizell, Cane, Savea, Smith, Mo’unga, Telea, J.Barrett, Ioane, Jordan, B.Barrett.
Coles, Williams, Newell, Whitelock, Papalii, Roigard, McKenzie, ALB.
I think you're one away from what they will name. It's not the hardest team to guess.

A fast start and discipline will be the key here.
Their points of weakness are their lineout, its not firing we can attack that. If they don't want the ball we should hold it an play for penalties but in the right parts of the field.
The backs need to be working on long exits. They won't play fast we need to keep them deep. Oh and we need to chase those kicks pressure all the time, their wingers are no better than any others when they are static and have players running towards them.
Scrums. Live scrumming all week our replacements need to be competitive if not better. We do that we can win this.
Ohh and lets spice this up its one match a piece this year lets put the freedom cup on the line they can put that stupid Qatar cup on the line its all or nothing now!!

If they bring Roigard in on the back of not even training to play, let alone playing for the last 2-3 weeks it would be retarded.
So you might be right.

I'm fucking buzzing.
Went out and bought a bunch of All Black shit I don't need (jacket, beanie, backpack) so I can 'travel light' (my excuse to the wife) when actually I just plan to wear black all week.
Will literally fly around the world in the next 7 days. I'll be on a flight tomorrow, will arrive, sleep for a day, then have the 3rd/4th game and final with one of my best friends in the world.
Day to recover from an all time hangover (for better or worse), then back on a plane.
We have a bunch of really nice bottles to drink and reservations for lunch at a couple of neat out-of-the-way little restaurants.
The result will likely change the ultimate enjoyment, but this feels like one of those weeks in life where it feels like showing up to work everyday is actually worth it.
C'mon ABs, hope you have kept some fucking receipts from that last game!

Question for the front row committee/props on here - Bernard Jackman says that Porter demolished Lomax in the QF, but Barnes penalised Porter because of a preconception about Porter.
Given the Bok scrum’s strength, is there any credence to Jackman’s claim? I’m not interested in bagging his claim because he’s Irish, more if he a valid point or not.
“ I think Barnes went into the game with a preconception about Andrew Porter and he refereed like that. We conceded three penalties from the four scrums the All Blacks had and looking back at multiple angles, Barnes was completely wrong on two of them.
Certainly if you look at a screenshot at certain points Porter’s hips are out and he looks like he is driving across. However, if his opposite man, their tighthead Tyrel Lomax, turns in towards our hooker without earning the right to do that by winning his battle with Porter first, then either Porter follows him in and tries to break his ribs like he did or he slips his bind to stay straight but leaves his pack exposed to a weaker scrum that could now go forward.
The most frustrating penalty was when New Zealand had a man in the bin and decided not to bring a centre in for the scrum to go eight v eight or even move their number eight behind Lomax to try and help him. Any good loose head in the world will exploit this mismatch. Lomax was destroyed by Porter, but Barnes penalised Ireland.
For a top class and experienced referee not to see this, especially when they decided to risk seven versus eight, is mind blowing. But to be fair, it’s been a very difficult World Cup for referees and the other officials and will be a big focus for World Rugby over the next cycle.”
I haven't looked at the tape, but it seemed Porters hips were WAY out. Maybe Lomax did angle in, but I didn't notice real time.
What I can say is that Barnes has a thing about pushing straight, so by grasping the nettle and boring way in Porter was always at risk of pinging.
By same token, if Lomax WAS boring in then if Porter had stayed straight fair chance Barnes would have blown against Black.
Boks are big on angling in.

BNo we didn’t…we don’t have the power too as SA has a vote
The borders were closed and nz and aus created a temp comp to allow the teams to keep playing…SA got pissed and got a new gig, if the SA teams were happy to come and love I’m aus or nz they probably could have
