All Blacks 2023

No, that's not it
Discussion? Fine
You don't discuss. You've set your stall put around Ian Foster. And you go on. And on. And on. And on. About how he sucks.Good stuff? Luck, someone else, or the players overcoming their shit coach
Everything bad? "See?!! I told you you!"It's weird.
Ian Foster has been disappointing me personally since 2004. I have Facebook memories annually telling me just how much I have been disappointed.
And yet here I am, 19 years later, able to admit maybe he knows a bit more than I gave him credit for.I can't wait to read your posts if we manage to win next weekend

Dude I have totally acknowledged that I am eating humble pie with how well we have done in the tournament. You're completely wrong. I had us out in the quarters, dead cert. He's done really well, pulled the team together. Not said anything else about this rwc, is been a very good campaign so far. But I refuse to call him anything else than a poor abs coach as RWC is not everything.

Which loops me back to
A poor AB coach is a legend to nearly every other nation on earth.

@Bones The win % says more than the total number of wins.
He's no Laurie Mains, but everyone's gotta have goals.

There's a reason why the abs are the greatest team ever, so yes

Isn't our historical mean 70%

If ever there was a graphic that summed up AB supporters and our level of delusion it's this
A guy universally reviled as the worst thing that ever happened to All Black rugby, has a winning percentage in excess of 70%
Starting with the fact that his appointment was not well received at the time, I think the first series loss to Ireland and the first home loss to Argentina, along with the style of some of his teams' play (helter skelter was a term used a lot on the Fern) only served to hurt his reputation. Along with the assistant coaching firings, and his almost firing before that win in SA, his tenure has been tumultuous most would agree. But his numbers certainly compare more favourably with the greats than perhaps they would have 18 months or so ago

@mariner4life It's not cool in this country to give him and Sam Cane credit.
in fairness...they didnt get credit when we were loosing or they were injured...because it was undeserved, seen plenty of credit for both in the last 7-10 day because we're winning/playing well...its not rocket surgery

Compare that to the guys around him though, it is significantly lower... and it is also propped up by the fact he avoided tough games right through 2020 and the start of 2021. No South Africa, then played Fiji and Tonga rather than an England/France etc. in that window. No end of year tour in that first year either.
Now is not the time to bash Foster, but using these stats to support him is silly.

Actually about 79% (78.88%) basesd on a draw being half a point.
It was 79.03% immediate prior to Fozzie taking on the job.
Interestingly, at the end of 1986, when NZ only recognised the IRB member nations as Test matches (with the odd exception) our record was 71.78%.
Lowest it ever was was 1950 at 65.49%. See graph below.
But I digress ...

i dislike Fozzie as much or even more than the next bloke, will be happy to see him go and am very much looking forward to a reset next year
but i cant argue things seem to be, FINALLY, clicking
assuming this is the plan, fuck around for 4 years making everyone think its all falling apart then switch it on for the knockout games...then he/they are doing well, achieving their aim
would i have done it like that, solely focus on the RWC? hell no
....but...id rather have to concede fozzie knew what he was doing than SA win

Yeah I pretty much feel the same way.

There are two ways of looking at that:
-A poor AB coach is legendary for other nations. They love it because it seldom happens.-You'd have to be extremely piss-poor to take the players we have and consistently lose matches. Not even an average coach could do that. It takes exceptional shitness.

There was no plan. Shit results, gets saved by changing the assistants to two who know what they are doing. He is smug despite all the losses, imagine what he will be like for the rest of eternity-assuming we get 1 more win, in the final.
Hail, Foster, RWC winning coach extraordinaire, savior of the All Blacks. -
@Wairau you dont need to tell me...i have more than one rant about him on here
but the alternative is what? cheer for SA so we can feel justified? fuck SA and fuck that, backing the boys to win and if he gets some praise then thats the price we pay

Still feels a bit like Stephen Donald territory rather than an underrated coach, but fingers crossed for the weekend - and hopefully history gives us something great to reevaluate.

Foster seems like a guy a little out of his depth, Mitchell has always seemed like a KHunt. So not done dirty at all in my book.
