Ref will be Reynal or Peyper most likely. If so you're well in it against a side that will have just played their final.

Really? I still remember my ex's families embarrassment when her geriatric grandfather called me a colonial. I had a laugh but many probably wouldn't. Same thing. Jingoistic slang from the early to mid 1900's.

Colonial clearly an insult, didn’t know that South Sea Islander was. Not sure I’ve ever used it but wouldn’t sweat to that, certainly won’t now
