It took 84 minutes (41 in the 1st and 43 in the 2nd) to beat this Irish team. They didn't do what they had done for the past 17 matches. They made mistakes. Their set piece was under massive pressure. They fluffed their maul attack with less than 10 to go. There were players with hands on hips with 2 minutes still on the clock. Even with space they couldn't take advantage of 1-on-1 contests.
So I don't disagree with Kearney in what is an Irish analysis of the match for an Irish audience (BTW who was the Aussie at the end of that coverage?). He was clearly disappointed. Sounded very familiar to the post 2007 QF analysis, where we didn't play even remotely to what we had been playing prior to the RWC.
Matt Williams think his name is , Aussie coach who worked over there for years , now in their media

I have to start by saying that the Irish supporters on here are very gracious. I'm sorry but I truly dislike the Irish team, especially Sexton and POM. I've been keeping receipts since last year and I'm enjoying today.
I think Sparky is onto something with the 'they weren't at 90% of what they can produce, that is the fact of today' comment from Kearney. Go fuck yourself mate. That AB team did very fucking well to identify how to slow you assholes down.
Ireland have been the best team in the world over the last couple of years, but perhaps you've also started to believe your own press, WCs are fluffybunnies like that.
Great post

As I pointed out. 6 and a half minutes without a whistle at the end there.

Weird to hear certain Irish pundits say that their team deserved to go further in the competition, you donโt deserve to win a Rugby match you have to earn it.
Another great post.

@NTA What minute was Smith's yellow card?
About 35.
He had 5mins either side of the break
Cunning plan to keep Christie on the bench
Pin a tail on it and call it a weasel.
Worked out brilliantly huh?

@gt12 obviously it was some smart arse comment from RI, given how pissed off Sexton was, I wonder if he reprimanded POM for his shit richie comments?
There will always be those who have something smart/funny to say that will piss some off, always passed as banter/sledging...
Probably called Sexton a shit version of O'Gara.

People are saying Ireland did not play to their potential, I tend to think the ABs had a lot more to do with it.
First we dominated the scoreboard which caused the Irish to chase the score, no way any northern hemisphere side turns down so many shots at goal.
We denied the Irish one of their biggest weapons and that is ruck turnover or penalties at the ruck. In fact it was the opposite with us getting many more jackels and penalties.
We denied the Irish set piece platforms as they did not have a single scrum feed and we stole a few lineouts. Our ball control was next level.
Wayne Barnes actually helped us more than we thought even though he missed a lot. The fact the Irish received 5 penalties early for ruck and scrum infringements set the tone that they could not flop on the ruck or try anything at scrum time.
We also handled their dummy runners pretty well with only a few clear breaks. JB, RI are very good defensively and they had a forward always tackling Aki.
Now we also put ourselves under a lot of pressure by stupid clearing kicks and poor exits. This has to improve. The Irish also made so many easy metres down our left hand side, it was scary how they got over the gain line.
I truly believe the coaches and players really executed their plan to perfection and perhaps Fozzie needs more credit but I canโt help but think Schmidt was the brains behind the plan.

This isnโt true. They have always had loads of issues, they just simply donโt get analysed as they won. No team is perfect.
If weโd had a defensive lapse and they scored in the last minute to win, nobody would be talking about these at all.
Just like in the SA match. Every single thing you talk about was in the SA match.

A couple of things.
That last phase of play started with Sexton's 22 drop out bang on 76mins. It finished at 82:18. 6mins and 18 seconds later.
NZ gave Ireland the ball (what the fuck was that kick Nuggie?) at 77 mins.
For the leaguies out there, the All Blacks withstood the equivalent of seven consecutive "6 agains", in 5 and a half minutes.
Sorry, noticed error in bold

Unsure if this image has been posted already, but that meant something...
Unlike.
Reminds me of a team too pleased with themselves and about to crash hard the following week.
Reminds me of Ireland 2015 actually.
It's up to all of us to keep bagging them. Dare them to win to spite us!
Tbh, even the good/great AB teams struggled the following week after a standout knock-out match. Difference is, this is a shit AB team.
They were so shit today
-
Right, so....
I'm not going to claim any sort of moral high ground, because this is all spite....
Fuck, we didn't deserve to win, but we did.
And I'm perversely more happy that Ireland didn't win, rather than that the All Blacks did win.
J Sexton was a fucking blight on the game, and now he's gone.
He was a fluffybunny. In the face/ear of referees, "simulation", etc. Just... fuck off. Begone. The sport is better off without you.
And... what the actual fuck? We won?
And... I've been drinking for 14 hours... I don't even know if I'm coherent... but fucking... there it is. Fuck Sexton. And it's awesomely appropriate that the Foster era will be ended by a loss to Argentina. -
Oh - and what the actual FUCK was with kicking the ball away with 4 minutes to go?
Was it an 'accord' to make the game more interesting? Or an assassination attempt on me - to give me a heart attack?
Just... what the actual fuck? Stop it. You fucking dicks. -
So, ah, maybe we should have started Cane in 2019 eh?

Just on that last Irish possession, that was really smart accurate defense. Shuffled, covered everything, picke their moments to try the turnover. It was tense, but we never looked like breaking. Good shape, hard shoulders, smart play.
Noticeable too was the ABs lining up well short of the offside line, again and again. By that time they knew they'd done the mahi in the first half making the whole Irish team work too hard for the yard and were confident they were reduced to just through the hands

Been out all day. Saw the last 5 minutes this morning so nice to get time this afternoon to get a look at the rest.
ABs first attacking raid going 29 phases without incident is pretty good.
Ireland's lineout and ruck are nervy.
I thought Barnes got the first scrum wrong tho - ABs THP folded in for me
Look at porter, he knew exactly what he'd done, didn't even give it the regulation prop head shake.
