I don't actually think not picking Roigard is that big a deal... untested under high stakes, and has been shown at times to have a shaky pass.

The bigger crime is that Christie is playing, and that is a selection/preparation fuck up. Brad Weber just should be there, it is absolutely ludicrous that he isn't.

My expectations are low for this one. I think we can win if we play the right game. But I haven't seen us play that game for a whole 80 minutes during Foster's tenure

Now you are just talking shit.

I think he is a better scrummager than Newell at this stage of his career

Maybe, marginally - I'd be happy for you to show me unequivocal proof though. So that would be how many less penalties and turnovers at scrum time Nepo gives, compared to the other options. Even better if you can convince me it balances out the shortcomings.

I can't wait for this game to be over and we can flush the dunny and move on. But if we manage to win I will have mixed feelings. The following week(s) will be like a slow painful death after being given a glimmer of hope from the doctor. Just plain cruel.

@frugby Weber's passing has always been inconsistent too so I wouldn't be using that as a reason to select him over Roigard. Experience, yes. I think Roigard is the better kicker as well, even over Smith and Christie.

Dropping a semi to Arg or Wal would be apex Foster and reflect where the team's at.

I'm living in optimism that BB has been looking after himself for the last 4 years to peak right now - kind of like Carter did back in '15. If he starts running hard and straight, he's a different player.

Annnnd it's the hope that kills ya

@nzzp haha yep, that would sum up his coaching career...we beat beat Ireland by 20 and lose to whoever next week, conceding a YC and RC in the process, having one player banned for the always fun 3rd/4th playoff match.

No Roigard, no Telea, no Sami T, who is going to score all these tries?

    This is depressing https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/rugby-world-cup-2023/300988477/rugby-world-cup-all-blacks-vs-ireland-head-to-head-ratings-for-the-quarterfinal

I thought they massively underscored the Irish and inflated some of our players but even in the article they outscored us in forwards and backs!

I’m living in optimism that first 20 minutes at mt smart is the type of rugby they have been keeping in their back pocket for now .

    But yeah , I know , I’m probably dreaming .

I love Aaron's passion. If the whole team has that passion, miracles can happen.

So, heart says SMASH THESE WHINING MIC KHUNTS, head says we're going to get smoked. Either way, I don't think it will be close. I think it will be a blow out in the end.

Agree, but the Irish bench LH isn’t exactly Ox Nché!

Have spoken to a few Irish guys and they are absolutely packing bricks about this game. Reminds me so much of the RWC monkey we had on our backs. No doubt the players will also be feeling that. Well except for their New Zealanders.

Scoreboard pressure does that to teams

I was thinking about how the Irish fans must be feeling. I am not surprised some are packing bricks. This is their time, but in the back of their minds they are playing the ABs. As pessimistic as I am about the ABs, I would be as nervous as fuck if I was Irish.
