FWIW, I can maybe see some logic in Leicester being the bench option covering several positions at a stretch. But I would be surprised if he makes the 23 given what happened to him last year in the Ireland series and based on hits outs against Uruguay and Namibia.

If Telea is injured and LF is chosen, Clarke has fallen a long way.

LF's workrate and cameos as an extra loose forward

I was all for Roiguard being the right back up choice, but some of his early decision making in the last game was a bit concerning

As opposed to Christie's wonderful decision making?

I'd take a chance on Roigard's decision making for the x factor he provides off the bench along with Dmac....

@PecoTrain If LF plays, then they need to ensure they utilize his strengths, ball running and around the ruck, while also allow for him being slower when the ball is behind him.

This has shades of 2019 where we picked an extra lock, in theory to attack the English lineout, but didnt...

I think that the choice of the other TH prop will depend on Lomax's status. If he can start and play 60 mins then we might see Newell on the bench. Otherwise I think that Laulala starts and Lomax could be on reduced minutes as a reserve.

Conservative selections in the reserves isn't going to help.

Looking at the Ireland-SA game, they play their starting props big minutes as there is a big drop-off in quality.

@taniwharugby my recollection of 2019 was playing an extra lock because BBR was coming back from injury and likely wouldn't last the distance.

For LF, I guess I would take Jordan/Telia for starting wings and utilise LF's energy late in the game where the kick/chase game has lost some of its energy.

I'm also interested to see how Hansen plays - he didn't look good following the head knock/return from HIA against Scotland and I was surprised to see him named. That and Ryans injury may alter Irelands kicking game in the second half if the lineout/chase options aren't up to it.

From memory, he did seem to run when the pass was probably the better option a few times I thought

Pure conjecture from a post on X:

Too many in that selection that don't look right to me.

I think the second line props will be Ofa and Nepo - and they both may well start because de Groot will be undercooked and Lomax medium-rare.

Telea ahead of Leicester and Roigard over Christie.

Medium-rare seems perfect to me when there’s a lot at stake.

@stodders well we will find out, only thing must be experience on Finlay's side mite get him over the line ,as for Talea if he's out that's huge loss , Leister is quality but makes alot of errors and I worry about his pace and slowness to turn and chase at test level big matches, If I'm correct he played Ireland last season then basically disappeared after that series, and the other bench rumour Newell over Nepo just can't see it ,both De Groot and Lomax haven't played significant minutes for a while now, must b temptation to start Ofa,Nepo with De Groot,Lomax on bench, still think Newell is a way off yet at test level big matches, ok to look good against minnows ,Ireland different beast

Fucken hell George! You on the red bull? More than one or two lines and most of it kinda made sense!

He will get shut the fuck down around the ruck, it's not Uruguay/Namibia - Ireland would fucken love that. Better off running at the ten channel to hit JGP/Sexton or staying on the wing.

There's a risk in picking Roigard and a risk in not picking Roigard. I think it will be a fine line decision.

With Christie and ALB the bench looks shit again.

Who, other than ALB, to cover midfield?

Stop it. There is far les risk in picking Roigard than there is in picking Christie. Only ten morons on Facebook and Foster would pick Christie (and maybe anyone needing to pretend Roigard is a risk because they can't depart the Fozzie defence).

    Nothing wrong with Christie's decision-making. It's just that it's a bit slow....

@Victor-Meldrew against one of the least ponderous defences in world rugby. Good combination 😃

Did Christie go up against Roigard in Super Rugby this year? If so, how did they fare against each other?
