Operation ¼ final now. Not sure how to prepare for Uruguay in a dead rubber.
Not a dead rubber, if Italy beat France
I think we are into the 1/4 regardless of that result if we get 5 points from Uruguay and keep a big points differential.
If Italy beat France with a bonus point and keep France to a single BP the Table will be
NZ 15 Points (Qualify 1st because we beat Italy)
Italy 15 Points
France 14 PointsIf Italy beat France with a BP and France get 2 BP the table will be
NZ 15 Points
Italy 15 Points
France 15 PointsIn this scenario I assume its points differential and NZ will have the best PD if France lose to Italy so NZ go through Q1, then I think Italy go through as they beat France.
The other options would be If Italy beat France without a bonus point and France get 1 BP Italy go through. If Italy beat France without a bonus point but France get 2 BP then France Q1 and go through.
So it appears to me that as long as we get 5 points vs Uruguay we go through.
People looking at scenarios where Italy beat France are as deluded as people worrying about Italy beating NZ. They have been very poor this RWC and they will lose to France.

@Billy-Tell I don't trust the French

Tomorrow he'll write All Blacks' lost aura resulted in Italy's complacency

Anyone reckon DMac should be the starting 15 ahead of Beauden?
Moody should be the starting 15 ahead of Beaudy, he has fallen so far off the cliff it is not funny. But yes beaudy should not be in the top 23, who replaces him, I dunno - Jordan, DMac, even Havili!

Aged as well as some of the comments about Frizzell being selected for the RC

Watched a bit of the game and BB was linking with RMo and Jordy really effectively on attack to unlock defences. Where he's fallen off is stuff like kicking, decisions around kicking and his defence. Too many mistakes which a professional player shouldn't make.
Can see why Foster & Schmidt pick him. Can see why he shouldn't start.
-
Well, we couldn't make a bigger statement than that could we? What an absolute hiding, ninety six points!
Of course it was only a poor Italy team, and some areas of concern for us didn't get tested at all, so we can take the result with a grain of salt in the context of the tournament. The biggest plus was getting through the game unscathed really with so many key players returning from injury.
That said, there is no other team in the world that could dismantle Italy like that. This game showed what this team is capable of when things click for them. Yes this is not a vintage AB side, but we have attacking threats across the park, and the last thing the rest of the world wanted was for them to suddenly start running red hot right before the quarters.
Looking forward to another hit out against Uruguay and then I cannot fucking wait for Ireland. Bring. It. On.

And how we poach all of our players from the South Sea Islands, like Mo'unga from the tiny island nation of Mairehau, with reference to that time he and that other guy Muliaina killed Brian O'Driscoll.

All Blacks v Italy game not appearing on the SMH website at all, not even in their sports section.
Rugby has been erased from Australia…

Ball in play time is not determined by the referee
It’s determined by the team who are in charge
Last night NZ were very much in charge
If NZ want the ball in play time to be greater then they have to be dominant in the basics
It’s pretty simple really
-
Certain Northern Hemisphere scribes we’ve admired so much over the years were getting ready yesterday to bury All Blacks Rugby and shit on its grave.
Our guys gave a performance of genuine passion and intensity. I can imagine lots of very disappointed NH Rugby pundits this morning.
-
Good performance, and a fun watch for sure. Still poor exits and too many infuriating 'clever' kicks on attack - and against the better sides we won't get the ball straight back from those errors.
Should put the wind up the potatoes though. They look pretty nerveless and have overcome a fair bit of history already to be fair, but if anything is going to make them a bit edgy about a QF exit that will. -

He's right to, we are the only top team that doesn't push hard on defence, it's so annoying that we still use a defence system from 2015.
-
@Machpants ironically our goal line defence is where we use a flat Rush-like defence and we are usually pretty good holding our line, it's when we defend at depth we don't maintain our shape and press up too slow
-
Roigard, Savea, JB and DMac are potent fringe runners. We dont have to spin poor ball wide like we have done too much over the last few years. Can attack closer in. SA backline D is brutal.

To be fair, he has been on the drop Sam Cane bandwagon for over a year

Yes and no.
Doesn't matter how dominant you are, when the opposition prop goes down for the 457th time and the referee allows it, the ball in play time is going to be less even if they stop the clock.
