RWC Week 1: France v All Blacks
-
I'm done with reading comparisons, firsts, jokes with this AB team.
Want them to ignore the inevitable shite noise, focus and give it heaps.
Proud of SB last night did exactly that. -
Give over boys
You’ll stuff Italy
-
@MiketheSnow your boys used to say that too 😉

Great.
Did you or did you not what the team to be changed every test? And what were the results like? How are the ABs fairing?

@sparky said in RWC: France v All Blacks:
@BerniesCorner The Italy game is now the most important All Blacks game since 2011 World Cup final. If we lose (and if we play like we have in the last two games that’s a possibility) the reputation of the team will be shot for a decade at least.
For Namibia and Uruguay, the ABs need to A, attack the breakdown like no tomorrow, B, practicing kicking loooooong from their 22 and pinning the the opposition in their 22 and for Italy they need to play 80 mins of rugby winning both halves. Go hard out, rack up à score then spend the next 60 mins kicking the ball long and deep.

Yikes sounds like Grant Fox
No need to re invent the wheel
The slag brigade will arrive shortly -
Cheer up, lads.
The French were bloody lucky to win that.
Their try after half time relied on a number of fortuitous events, including Jaco missing a relieving knock on.
The yellow had a much more subtle impact than the obvious. Not sure if it was some perception of guilt for not giving red or what, but for the next 15 minutes or so Jaco has hyper tough on us at breakdown and anything which was dropped assumed forwards. Meanwhile, counted him twice not pinging for same thing in their half and one heinous offside, which even ITV picked up, which was very kickable.
An even handed display in those 15 minutes and it'd have been 19-16 or even 16 all with ten to play.
That was the game in a nutshell.
ABs did many good things and were best team over first three quarters.
I expect French coaches will have lots of material for Monday review.
-
@pakman I can see why we can have cause for optimism, however the biggest problem is the need for 3 big games in a row.
I think we certainly have it in us to roll anyone in a quarter, it's backing up the next week against a quality opposition I have little faith in us doing, let alone 3 times in a row.
I'd love them to prove me wrong though, would be a fitting end for the likes of Whitelock, Smith etc

At the moment Italy is our final.
We need to decide on our top team and play the combos in the pools as much as possible.
Some of these guys confidence must be shot.
Ethan is arriving.Probably walking on water to get there judging by some of the posts on here about him

@pakman Seriously mate, blaming the ref for that loss is totally ridiculous.
I didn’t ‘blame the ref’, I referenced that the French were lucky. Sometimes that’s the difference.
-
@pakman mate seriously??? I'm not drinking the Kool-Aide on this one. We were dominated up front by a superior French pack. We were average at the breakdown, we lost our first ever game in pool play and we lost by the worse margin in our RWC history.
No we sucked! The only positives are Reiko and Telea were awesome.

You are sure of your position, based on exactly the same evidence as I am. Unless you do have inside knowledge. You wouldn't go round slighting people when you are doing the exact same thing, would you?
I'm not claiming inside knowledge and that Foster over-ruled Schmidt & Ryan - you are.
And you're claiming inside knowledge that Ryan is the main selector. Despite not being head coach. What evidence do you have that he picks the forwards?
My evidence is that Foster has always prefered Taylor to star.

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but something I noticed while watching this morning: less replays during play. Less chances for the crowd to "ooh!" and "aah!" for potential infringements.
It was a bit of a blight that hometown broadcasters were pointing the ref towards possible visiting infringements. Didn't seem to happen.
Fair point and seemingly deliberate, but I did find lack of replays a bit annoying.
Helped us with Rieko's pass to Telea.

@Bovidae said in RWC: France v All Blacks:
Telea still has some major flaws in his game (getting himself isolated too often and poor positional sense on defence) but he is certainly dangerous with the ball.
He has that uncanny knack of staying on his feet in tough situations that’s for sure. So slippery. Is it just me or is he not super quick though ?
He was out of position when France scored one of their tries which was unfortunate

He’s not the full package, but hellishly elusive.

Yes, he has a habit of jamming in when that player is already covered by defenders and leaving his winger free. Telea did the same at Mt Smart against SA.

Couple of times, had he nudged ball on when a bit isolated it would have been foot race between French and Rieko.
