@Mattasaurus huh, go figure. I thought he was a shining light - but I was crediting him with probably half of the things that Nisbo said Savea did.
Fair call mate

Richie’s
I'd have been more than happy for DMac to stay out and right the ship with Smith at halfback.

@Bones I’d be having a quiet word with Perofeta too if I was Fozzie…
I'm not going to judge a ten outside that abysmal halfback performance.
I would've said Jordan is a really good wing and an average fullback, Faingaanuku doesn't offer anything more than Clarke so can go bye - but again tough to judge when the halfback takes so long to distribute, if he even makes it to the breakdown.
Couldn't disagree more regarding Faingaanuku .... unless you want him to make a break and full over a bit more?
Fainga’anuku and Clarke should both make the squad if we’re taking a 4 wingers with Jordan and Telea the other two. Unless they drop one of the power wingers to accomodate someone like Stevenson?

but Christie quite good
Baffling.
I'm no Christie fan, but my gut feel was that his defence was really strong, and his passing was good. He has sort of fallen into the Cane camp, where people struggle to acknowledge the good things he does... I still wouldn't have him in my WC squad, but he was not the worst part of that halves pairing, not by a longshot.

Classic, but no.
His defence was good, in the period where Aussie were making yards at will around the fringes?
His passing was decent, that's fair. But his distribution was yuuuuuck. Poor options, taken about 3 seconds too late after he finally makes a decision - and that's after he's taken a couple of seconds too long to even get to the breakdown if he does.
He was by far the worst part of the halves pairing, because he's at the root of it.

Samisoni gone from no1 hooker last year to number 3 this year
He played huge minutes for the Chiefs. Wonder if we are seeing the effects of that now.

I'd be tempted to take McLeod over one of them. Thought he had a good go at imitating Jordie tonight.

Agreed. Was very impressed by McLeod for a debut. Direct, accurate, good decisions, raw boned.

@frugby his defence has never been an issue.
Its speed of clearance and decision making where he struggles, and this in combo with Dmac who was struggling, made for a very poor 40 mins.
Most of the team came out better after whatever rocket Fozzie gave them at half time.

Hospital pass for Razor next year without Smith, Whitelock, Retallick, you would have to say. As to Christie, the question has to be asked again. What do they see in him?

The first period of play when Smith came on made it the most evident. Was just bang bang bang. Smith was at every breakdown before it even happened and just feeding players. Those 2-3 seconds are huge when you're trying to hit lines or runners

Not one of ST's finest games, lineout throwing was wonky and was quiet around the field. Don't remember any dominate pick and goes from him.
He doesn't seem as physically dynamic and impactful as he did earlier in his career, perhaps he is being worked out better by the opposition?

Yeah, his anticipation is second to none, you almost never see him running/jogging to a ruck where the ball is already being presented.
Still, thought McKenzie had a bit of a mare. Crap attacking kick option, needlessly kicked dead once, shit defense on Hooper.

I will counter by saying, I'm not sure that is as much of a criticism of Christie as it is a praise of Smith. Nobody in the world offers the speed and consistency and service he does - not even Dupont. In that regard, he is the best.

The time from the player tackled to pass away was halved with Smith, it was that obvious.
