@Donsteppa this comp is the Chiefs to lose.
Fixed.
I think the Chiefs are probably in the Blues 22 role, strong round robin to lose to the Crusaders in the final.

One thing - anyone else think the chiefs had changed their game plan completely from what had been successful throughout the round robin?
If so, ballsy and almost backfired...
Do you mean the kicking in the first half? They were winning the kicking battles but it all went a bit pear shaped anyway.
TBH, now that the win is in the bank, I think if Narawa had not pushed the Reds player and scored that try the Chiefs would have run over the Reds pretty easily, so we can thank him for an intense enjoyable game of rugby I guess.

Chiefs are much stronger than 22 Blues in my opinion. A better coach, a better tight five, better halves.

Narawa doesn't push him, he doesn't score.
It just felt like they were super conservative and their patterns were different, a lot less sweeping movement.

Obviously, we can't know, but on my multiple viewings of that it looked like the defender would have missed it anyway.
Nah, on my viewings it looked like he stepped in, caught it and then ran back breaking ten tackles on his way to a game turning try.

Let's not forget that the 22 Chiefs really should have won the semi-final in Christchurch. Add an in-form DMac and I think they would have.

PGS has to take accountability for that first try after the 5m scrum, that was embarassing.
Control at the back of the scrum has always been a weakness of PGS's. It would have been a different result with Jacobson at no.8.

Like @ARHS I enjoyed the game despite all of my frustrations. I was never expecting this to be a big win and you have to credit the Reds defence as the Chiefs did create try-scoring opportunities. Qld were determined not to play any rugby in their own half but the Chiefs won the kicking duel.
I mentioned in another thread about Murphy as one of the ARs. He was the dominant voice in the comms but missed some very obvious things like offsides (e.g., Reds players advancing in front of deep kicks). No consistency whatsoever.
Lastly, after watching the game today it wasn't anywhere near as bad as it appeared at the ground.

Kudos too to ALB for a lot of valuable touches under pressure
Opinions ...
P.S. on my viewing though ALB was very good.
I expected more from him; he's a seasoned All Black so had to do more than just draw and pass.
-
lol what? Two weeks ago we put 31 points past the Brumbies in Canberra
Last week we put 40 past the Force in Perth with a B side. This week, in a final, we met a Reds team that made 229 tackles at 89%, and still managed to score 29 points.
-
i couldn't give a shit if we won by 1 with an 82nd minute penalty. Finals is all about being in front at the end.

There's a lot to be said for a calm solid presence in the midfield making good decisions. The guy that can see if the option that was there when the ball was sent out is still viable rather than forcing it into areas that stress retention.
It's something Conrad Smith was very good at. -
i bet the Hurricanes wish their starting AB 12 could throw a simple draw and pass

Possibly to an unmarked player in a yawning gap a few metres from the line? That requires considerable vision and talent.

Impressive from McReight -
