The Blues - where not so great coaches go to confirm they not so great coaches.
GH was the Blues GOAT. All the rest were pretty blah. Even Sloan's cup winning season was with GH as an advisor

Henry's teams like 14/15 of starters were AB's, should've cakewalked the comp each year & to be fair they did, except for 1999.

If the Blues 'make the Super final, Leon will end up with the second best winning percentage of any Blues coach (currently tied with Sloan). He's already the "winningest".
Short memories of how poor they were before he took over.
That isn't saying much. After GH, I'd say the Blues have been a study in futility. Leon doesn't seem to win the big ones when it matters
Leon has improved the group's culture massively, that's the key thing he's contributed, but I'd argue he's still figuring out his best team, indecisive selections have inhibited the side from reaching their full potential since 2020, look at McMillan he knows his best team & seriously values cohesion, he would never have persisted with Plummer (2021) then RTS (2022) as his starting 12, he would've eased RTS in as a utility-sub & Heem would've been his starting 12 for the last 2 seasons since TJ Faiane's departure. McDonald lacks decisiveness with his selections and is prone to experimenting in key positions (lock, blindside, 10, 12, 15) where stability is required leading into crucial matches.

Poor old Leon.
He wins as many Super titles as the entire history of Canes' coaches and yet their fans are rubbishing him.
He's been unfortunate to have to coach against Coaching Jesus, who has repeatedly thwarted him (including by having his congregation provide him with Joe Moody at a crucial juncture, when he was short on props - that intervention about to be re-tested....).
His Super coaching also overlapped (quite favourably) with this guy....

He's been pretty stable at 10. The Fern has been continuously urging him to play someone other than Beauden there - and he's resisted.
If they are fit - I bet he plays Tuipolotou, Ioane, Barrett, Heem and Perofeta in those "experimental" positions, in the play-offs.

@Chris-B Have noticed that on the social network and unfortunately on this forum where there are some who should know better start coming out of the woodwork questioning Razors credentials not only as the Crusaders head coach but the future All Black coach , any other franchise with their sort of injury toll would have already fallen by the wayside at this stage of the competition ..Not sure what part of 5 or is it 6 titles in row people dont get , if they get to the final and thats on the cards you would’nt bet against Razor or the Crusaders.
-
@Steven-Harris I don't have any concerns about our selections for AB coaches and assistant coaches.
They may end up not winning as much (and what) we want, but they're all good choices.
Right now, I think Razor will be struggling to field a team that can beat the Chiefs. McMillan is a smart coach and he's got the cards in his hand - but, we will see.... if both teams get that far.

Poor old Leon. Not only is he getting stick for the Blues performance and tactics - despite vastly improved results - he's also getting the hindsight stick for his "poor" selections.
Almost as if he's being set up as the fall-guy if and when things don't go as well as we think and hope under Robertson........

Anyone got a gif of EdG doing that cry thing?

The issue is expectation. Robertson has been so hyped-up on social media (and on here) that anything less than outstanding success pretty quickly is going to attract criticism.

Free pass if there's injuries though, as no other team has those.

Yeah. One coach's injury list is another coach's inability to select and develop a cohesive squad to cover injuries

You think the Crusaders haven't had injuries in the past five years?

Unfortunately circumstances and availability mean you'll never get the best outcome.
Schmidt didn't want to continue in the role beyond 2023, while Andrew Goodman was never going to be brought out of his Leinster contract after that $450,000 Mooar farce. The only change I wanted to the current group is Goodman as defense coach (he filled that role 2017-2019) with Hansen running the attack strategy & overall gameplan as he's doing this currently for Crusaders, with McDonald working specifically with the outside backs.

He's not been that hyped up, it just appears that way when he is compared with the complete muppet we've been saddled with for the last 3+years
