Biggest wish for next year: a Restarts and Exits Coach.
What's so difficult about it that it needs a dedicated coach? That sort of stuff should be Pro Rugby 101 like throwing into a lineout surely.
-
@Victor-Meldrew And yet it is consistantly poorly executed across the NZ teams.
-
Isn't it a culture rather than an execution thing? Our Super teams seem to want to play with the ball and that includes from kick offs.
Maybe (and I'm just spit balling) they have stats that show it's more advantageous to play with the ball even down their own end of the field, and that it doesn't often lead to tries to the opposition?

Yep but at high level a things need proper skills to execute real well. Kicking and catching high kicks are rugby 101, but still have skills coaches to enchance things. Same as lineouts everything, even passing is a thing that skills coaches work on.

I have to wonder about Razors assistant selections with some of the evidence we are seeing in Super
Holland and his terrible sub calls and Rangi with his kicking tactics
Early touch from Perofeta in his own half and he puts the same short cross field bomb low percentage kick that we have seen BB doing. Obviously a coached thing and if it’s not directly coming from Rangi then he should be stopping it.
The subbing of Roigard at 60 for Booth continues. Roigards importance to the Canes at the moment is equal to Ardie. He’s not flagging fitness wise so keep him on. -

If the Blues 'make the Super final, Leon will end up with the second best winning percentage of any Blues coach (currently tied with Sloan). He's already the "winningest".
Short memories of how poor they were before he took over.
That isn't saying much. After GH, I'd say the Blues have been a study in futility. Leon doesn't seem to win the big ones when it matters

The Blues - where not so great coaches go to confirm they not so great coaches.
GH was the Blues GOAT. All the rest were pretty blah. Even Sloan's cup winning season was with GH as an advisor

Henry's teams like 14/15 of starters were AB's, should've cakewalked the comp each year & to be fair they did, except for 1999.

Leon has improved the group's culture massively, that's the key thing he's contributed, but I'd argue he's still figuring out his best team, indecisive selections have inhibited the side from reaching their full potential since 2020, look at McMillan he knows his best team & seriously values cohesion, he would never have persisted with Plummer (2021) then RTS (2022) as his starting 12, he would've eased RTS in as a utility-sub & Heem would've been his starting 12 for the last 2 seasons since TJ Faiane's departure. McDonald lacks decisiveness with his selections and is prone to experimenting in key positions (lock, blindside, 10, 12, 15) where stability is required leading into crucial matches.

Poor old Leon.
He wins as many Super titles as the entire history of Canes' coaches and yet their fans are rubbishing him.
He's been unfortunate to have to coach against Coaching Jesus, who has repeatedly thwarted him (including by having his congregation provide him with Joe Moody at a crucial juncture, when he was short on props - that intervention about to be re-tested....).
His Super coaching also overlapped (quite favourably) with this guy....

He's been pretty stable at 10. The Fern has been continuously urging him to play someone other than Beauden there - and he's resisted.
If they are fit - I bet he plays Tuipolotou, Ioane, Barrett, Heem and Perofeta in those "experimental" positions, in the play-offs.

@Chris-B Have noticed that on the social network and unfortunately on this forum where there are some who should know better start coming out of the woodwork questioning Razors credentials not only as the Crusaders head coach but the future All Black coach , any other franchise with their sort of injury toll would have already fallen by the wayside at this stage of the competition ..Not sure what part of 5 or is it 6 titles in row people dont get , if they get to the final and thats on the cards you would’nt bet against Razor or the Crusaders.
