@SBW1 i think we all know fozzie will go with who is know, even if theyre just back from injury or something, but i would love to see a couple purely picked on form
That's the balancing act isn't it? Pick players in form that may be currently outperforming those with experience or count on the experienced players to perform when they need to.
Super always shows out some players going hard from game one trying to get noticed but falling away once the international season comes.
I do agree though, that if a current selection looks to be really flat or is being consistently out played AND there is a form alternative then that alternative deserves a crack.
We are usually looking at outside backs, especially wingers, in this regard. -
@Crucial In seasons past players got the opportunity to shine at international level against some of the easier international sides, which has been a great way of introducing depth. The only backline position of concern is our depth at No.10. The Rebels have unearthed a good one. I am hoping we get a few more quality candidates before the end of the season.

RM, BB and DMac are the options there with SP in reserve. I don't see too much position concern there.

@nostrildamus I got confused about which twin played for which franchise.
Cutting to the chase, are you talking about PUJ returning to the Canes or TUJ returning to the Highlanders?
As they are both often injured, I can only guess Bones thinks you mean PUJ is returning..and TUJ has managed to put together 6 games in a row (including pre season) and i thought was a bit of a stand out on the weekend for the landers
Is TUJ's fitness ok? Someone I think suggested he was a bit portlier than before? 6 games in a row is pretty good for him I would think.
-
@nostrildamus i think so, he has put on some size but the role hes playing make that size useful. I also commented on the blues game, BB's break away try, TUJ is the one that manages to get back and make the fine tackle so im not sure if lost that much pace, he wasn't a speedster before

Doesnβt really matter, neither are going to be bolters or make the squad this year.
They will persist with RTS etc before going down that path.
Nankivell or Aumua could be bolters though.
-
@ACT-Crusader Levi would be good, has to play for the Saders, he is a Ta$man player after all. Would be a good poach.

@SBW1 Aumua was already at the Blues and Chiefs so he can work his way through the others.
We have ourselves a new highlanders first five!
I'm sure he can kick more than 15 m.

@Bovidae Are mid season poaches common?
Aumua won't be leaving MP.
My point was that he was previously at two NZ franchises and not re-signed. Sure, Aumua is a better player now, but his development/potential wasn't considered good enough to be retained.

If we're honest with ourselves there's only two standouts so far; Roigard and Stevenson. Others are playing well, but not at a level that screams "pick me for the All Blacks".
-
@antipodean Injury will also force its hand, although they seem to manage the All Blacks fairly well by giving them rest time.

Lester F needs to back up that last game and he may be given another go. A player that can play midfield and wing is valuable in a RWC squad especially for minnow games.

He was so disappointing though in the AB's. Maybe SR is his level

I don't disagree based on evidence so far. But maybe he can force another crack?
