Schmidt obviously has some good qualities as a coach but he is also a coach with two 'failures' at RWCs.
Schmidt: coaches side to number 1 in world.
Fern: FAILURE
NZ of all nations should understand how hard it is to win RWCs. After all it took us 24 years between cup wins #1 and #2

I can't believe people have the energy to keep this up every day. Pace yourself. You'll need that energy once
SchmitHammett is announced as coach.FIFY
If that happens I'll make the rest of this thread look like a warm up.

Can I save this for when we dip out in the quarters?
Schmidt took two Ireland teams that were on hot streaks to World Cups and never made it into the top four.
He did a great job getting the team up the rankings, winning 6Ns etc but couldn’t get performances when it counted.
His successor has improved his team.
I’m not quite sure why some here think he is what we need. -

The problem with Schmit's Irish teams was that their highly attritional game plan made it hard for them to back up 2 huge games. They'd effectively blown their load against France in 2015 and the preceeding 3 years had taken their toll in 2019. They had nothing left in the tank. Not conducive at all to tournament rugby. He wouldn't have to do that with the ABs and there are certainly elements from those Irish teams that would be nice to see in the ABs. Some forward muscle for starters!
But I don't believe for a second he'll be head coach. How can you sell that to the NZ rugby public? Unless they discover a decomposed corpse in his car or he badly injures himself breakdancing, it will be Razor.

I'd be happy with either but with a serious review after 1 and 2 years and not just on the coaching, but also on what in NZ rugby is impacting AB success. Thought the latter should have happened last year.

I heard a bit of talk today that Vern Cotter is aligned to Razor’s coaching team.
He does have some history as forward Coach at the Crusaders a wee way back. Some international experience on his team would really help him out.
If Joseph had managed to get Schmidt and Brown, the interviews would be very interesting, but if Schmidt is going to go it alone, I can't see anyone but Razor getting the gig.

Fuck Schmidt.
Fuck him very much.
I met him in my teenage years and as a result care for him very little.
Am therefore way on Team Razor.
Your selection rationale is probably more insightful than the NZRU.
Edited - cheers

In all seriousness though I'd be really happy if Schmidt got the role, he's my preferred candidate.

Really? I'm a bit worried that Joe is a bit fixed in his ways. Short term he could be a real tonic but longer term he'd need an inventive backs coach wouldn't he?
Carlos Spencer maybe...And that brings us to who would Joe pick at 10?
