And thus ends yet another inspiring lesson of "Shit I didn't need to know".

Oh contrare Blackadder, by far the best post of yours I've ever read. Awesome we jaunt down memory lane.👍

Rangi? Really? quite surprised at the cultural misappropriation- nah just joshing. Obviously passed on by kiwis before you.

Loop, like a double round yeah? Nasty one for a slow and slovenly ball passer to get smashed.

Confession; if passing the ball to the guy cutting back was there a best way to flick him the ball. I mean left or right because one way left you front on and t'other turned your back on the defence...I think. Like he gets it just before running by you or just after running by you If that's not explained well enough, just ignore and I'll happily go to my grave not knowing🙂

Swannell is the new bench mark for the game calling role. Clear, accurate and comprehensive with names and adds apt adjectives to what we can see for ourselves. Good at her job.

For me, the benchmark for game-calling is the UK's Andrew Cotter - the bloke is really, really good.

But yeah, I also enjoy Rikki Swannell's commentary - like you I think she's bloody good and the best in NZ.

I take one day off posting and That Guy gets suggested for commentary. If DMac gets a card for slightly brushing above the shoulder then this poster should be banned for life.

Clearly I need to be more vigilant or this place will degenerate.

    Also well said @Kruse

Fuck SBW is bad. Why is he employed? Surely it's some sort of work experience, we're not actually paying him are we?

For someone who criticised him lots as a player I actually find his “aw shucks” demeanour quite endearing.

He’s revolutionised broadcasting too, I’ve never heard anyone refer to Dave Rennie as “bro” before !

He is absolutely terrible. Some people simply should not be in front of the camera. I'd even put McGod in that category. But he's too busy flying helicopters and shit.

The demeanour is fine, it's the absolutely pathetic 12 year old kid could do better analysis that's the problem. It's such a waste of time that it hurts listening to it. Seriously the best you can hope for is for him to get a meaningless cliche correct.

He’s pretty poor too it must be said. Loved him as a player but his “expert comments” are very bland and inoffensive. Definitely doesn’t want to bite the hand that’S feeding him and say what he really thinks.

I wonder if because he is such a well known figure in both codes , and Aussie rugby struggles for attention,

They see it as a marketing tool to have this celebrity type ex player
    as part of their team

SBW's deal is with Channel 9 so he commentates both League & Rugby (not to mention his boxing events on Stan etc)

Yep. Marshall, Muliaina, Wilson and even Parsons are good. They're knowledgeable, fluent and think quickly on their feet. Unfortunately SBW does none of that, it's so painful to watch I actually feel sorry for him. For those of us in Aus watching Stan, Turunui and Harrison are the best of the bunch.

@crucial is the guy on the right Derpus?

I'm no lip-reader, but he does seem to be ranting "Super Rugby Trans Ta$man is shit, let's take our ball and go home and just play with ourselves".

To be fair Derpus also rants on Australian Rugby, so perhaps it should read

"Super Rugby Trans Ta$man is shit, let's take our ball and go home and just play with ourselves. And we won't even get that right".

You could say that about nearly all of the Sky talking heads. Then Kirwan is the opposite extreme where he just spouts rubbish.

I like Read. Sure he looks like a deer in the headlights, amd he's not inspiring, but that's not his job. I think he's really observant of the game tactics and asks insightful (but not challenging) questions

It's often a very fine line between appearing genuine and not just spouting boilerplate rubbish. I don't watch NRL very often but I get the impression that many of their commentators are just too overrehearsed and almost appear carbon copies of each other.

My tolerance for Parsons as a commentator is low. We've got the increase in volume when he gets excited, his overuse of the same phrase in replays (Go you good thing!), and a desire to inject quotes into the commentary.

And speaking of commentators, I didn't even get to watch all of the Wellington-Waikato game, but in what I did see Laban was going all-Nisbo by mis-identifying Waikato players.

Either Sonny-Bill is having a massive laugh or he actually forgets he’s on camera. It’s too funny to not watch!

I don’t mind Harrison. Turunui is a bit of a whinger.

Parsons and Hames, nup can’t listen to either.
