To be honest its crap rule ..Tupaea is out of rugby for 3 months for getting cleaned out by a dog act and both these infractions are both YCs
Everything thats wrong with rugby right thereNo, they weren't. That's why Swain got cited. He should have received a red card.
Should have been a Red no matter what, you can not drop you knee onto a player's head.
Dumb by Christie hanging on but a Dog act by Gibson.Did he actually drop it on his head, I know the
Cantab cheerleaderscommentators said he did but it didn't look like it hit the head to me (happy to concede the point if G&GR style pics and diagrams are used to show it did).Yep you can see Christie’s head bounced when he was hit.
I've already told you the evidential requirements, G&GR it or it's not true.

Just watched this. Don't often get annoyed by the commentary but this one grated. The lass singing the praises of Niko Jones tackle and jackal technique when the replay showed how blatantly illegal it was...and was again moments later... The free pass for Tom Christie and his horribly cynical act. Players taken out well beyond the ruck. A head shot totally ignored. Forward passes left unnoticed. Mr Waenga should have been taken to task over all the non calls but wasn't.
Some of the player skills were well below par too. Backline passing not good and Fihaki had another substandard performance. But the Cantab forwards made up for it. Harford looked very useful too. Funaki had his moments for Auckland. Moan over. -

We're going to get reamed.
We are not playing well, unless there's a step change, it could get ugly out there. Frustrating year to watch these guys, there's talent, but not pointed in the right direction.
Good prediction.

@ARHS What was Christie's "horribly cynical act"? I must have missed it.
It was bad rugby all around.
Christie was lucky not to concede a penalty by continuing to hold on to a player away from the ruck. Would have resulted in a turnover of possession and a penalty conceded deep in own half.
Gibson then stupidly lashed out and conceded both a penalty and a card.
-
@KiwiMurph I wouldn't call continuing to hold on to someone's leg "horribly" cynical, especially if the retaliation was so much worse. Holding on to legs, arms, shirts for longer than is necessary, is very annoying and it happens way too often, and it should be penalised. Christie would have been penalised if Gibson hadn't responded by attempting to knee Christie in the head. Now that's what I call cynical. And potentially dangerous. He was lucky that his knee didn't connect with Christie's head, or he'd have received a red card.

Waenga had plenty of opportunity to say something to Christie, or blow his whistle earlier, but did neither. That contributed to what happened.
Yep, if players can't take the law into their own hands then the refs actually need to apply the laws.
I wasn't swayed by Kane's ridiculous commentary, Gibson fell over because Christie was holding his leg and no knee got even close to head contact. It was a silly yellow card.
Was maddening when the producer was clearly trying to correct Kane's dumb comments by showing clear space between the knee and the head, but he kept repeating it. And at any time Christie could have let go, but continued to cheat.

I like Kane as a commentator. Knowledgeable esp. about the dark arts (which is rare) and not biased IMO.
In all the thread, has there been any mention of how well Garniner went? The lad looks to have a future! -
@Stargazer holding on solidly for that long and in that position away from the ball and in front of the referee just looked like a blatant attempt to get a retaliation, which is what I call overly cynical. Just like Hollywood dives. Watch the players taken out in the 20 minutes after that. It became a bit of an attempt to see how far the officials would go in ignoring it. Not sure if tmo can hear the commentary but it sure as hell would have left him feeling comfortable with all the flack directed at Gibson and Christie seemingly the victim.
