Not really. I'm a Canes supporter who hasn't been in the South Island since the age of 5. Unlike some people here I don't give a fůck what Super team someone plays for. Ultimately it's about the Allblacks. And on that front all I can say is that even with his apparent lack of experience and enormous size, Goodhue is a better option at 13 than Rieko.

When he is fit, which isn't often these past few years, he's looked very, very slow at 13. And that's at Super Rugby level. That Bok centre would make him his bitch at Test level.
Pretty much only in the picture as a 12 now.

Rieko Ioane: Has an absolute blinder against the best defence in the world.
Internet Rando: I keep saying he's not a centre's asshole!
Rieko and Jordan looks dangerous with a competent forward pack and a functioning backline. Funny that.

Would like to see Havili/Goodhue get some time with current game plan.
Goodhue doesn't have the speed to be effective at centre. He was never quick anyway but looks slower after the injuries. 2nd 5 would be his position.
If you look at the stats from the Jo'burg test, Havili attempted 6 tackles and missed 3 of them. We can all agree that he looked much better on attack but defence is still an issue.
I think defence is an issue across the board. Too often players are slow to react and are then finding themselves out of position.
There were some poor 1-on-1 front on missed tackles no doubt.
One shining light in our defence though was we weren’t passive.

@Rancid-Schnitzel said the guy wanting a fullback from his team to play 12.
-
@Kirwan not that I am advocating him, but I find it interesting in broken play Goodhue is often on the wing, I think it assists with organising the defence inside but also because he is good at cleaning and securing the ball at rucks it helps having him in the wider channels here, despite his pace (lack of)

Yeah ok. It's got nothing to do with the fact that he played at 12 for the NZ U20 and won player of the year in that position for Canterbury. Ffs I'm on record saying I wish he'd stayed down south and retained that partnership with Goodhue for the Crusaders.

He's a good player, but I'd have him closer in. At Test level he'd just get exposed IMO. Pace is a big reason ALB and RI are so useful at 13.

How many years ago was that? Probably the same time period that Sotutu was still in the backs.
JB is not a serious 12 option unless he plays there at Super Rugby level every week.

Which I why I wanted him to stay down south. But yeah, it's all about da tribalism.

This is not correct. He started most of his games at fullback for Canterbury. He also had some starts at 12 and one at 13, but his primary position was fullback

He initially started the season at FB, but was then 12 and he ended at 13 because Goodhue was injured. Regardless, the combo he formed with Goodhue looked really good and I wish he'd stayed down there to continue that. I've always said that I would rather him play at 12 for the Saders than 15 for the Canes.

On a rewatch of game highlights I found it interesting to note that three slipped tackles were all on Am. Clarke's one the most obvious but there was one from Cane almost identical and I think there was another in that same (called back) run.
He has a running style where he really lifts his knees and steps through tackles at speed. Pretty sure we will adjust to that next time we meet. -
