@Victor-Meldrew For certain, they may not be.

But, under Foster they are clearly a long way short of the mark. I've got zero doubt now that a coaching change has to happen and with a better coach we will do better.

A change will almost always bring an improvement or halt a downward slide - particularly in teams - regardless of the quality of the Head honcho. Won't bore you with the details, but it's well documented, was discovered by an Australian (Elton Mayo) and been known about for 100+ years.

But unless the underlying issues are understood and fixed, there's a big risk that improvement will be temporary and you'll be back to square one. Sure, some of those issues might be addressed in the short-term by the new bloke with some fresh ideas, but getting those ideas to stick is a heck of a lot harder than implementing them.

(Standard disclaimer: The above is not an endorsement of Foster)

That's it from me on the Organisational & Performance Improvement stuff. Gave up that career up ages ago as I'd had enough of it...

One Australian discovering it and another proving it.

I'm more intrigued to know what he thought of that performance.

It's classic Ian Foster. Both win and lose when you 'shouldn't'.

So what happens if the ABs win by 10?

I can’t see NZRU can wield the axe for rest of Rigby Championship.

Foster gets to walk away into the sunset with a big grin. If there is a subsequent upturn in form by the ABs he can say he laid the foundations but wasn't given the time to see it all come to fruition.

    And here we are.

A bit like the game last night, I wouldn't be surprised either way. There's been plenty of drums beating in the media and elsewhere, but the NZRU haven't taken a textbook management approach to any of it so far, so...!?

Mark Robinson and the NZR Board have an interesting few days ahead...

Robinson doesn't have a say, does he? Both Foster and Robinson report to the board, so only the board can relieve Foster of his duties.

Me too, but I have absolutely no idea what NZR are going to pull out of their arse.

Surely Foster has to go. Once the glow of this performance wears off, we will be back in the shite soon enough if he stays.

Not a great look for NZR though. I doubt Foster was lying when asked if he would still be coach in two weeks with his “I don’t know” comment. That shows that he wasn’t set a clear target to keep his job and NZR have been clearly working behind the scenes on a preset decision without telling him.

    Plusses
Brought back SF when no one else wanted him
    seemed to pay off yesterday

    Question
Chose Jason Ryan (or forced on him?)

    Negatives
Seemed reluctant to bring back ST, EdG
Many positional swaps, slow to select new players, try out other 6s or new props
Thought Jordie would be a good winger
Not playing Reece much who has been arguably our best winger
Chose injury plagued Sam Cane as captain and arguably not best in his position
General games slide apart from yesterday
Playing DH against big physical sides until his confidence gone (exception: yesterday)
    Questionable kicking tactics
    Often bad bench timing
Very slow to react to changing opponent tactics

Timing would be fucking awful for team morale too. They all have to travel back together with a guy they have clearly thrown support behind. Will have some players worried about their own job too.
I don’t mind a change but think it is important to manage it well, possibly with an agreed transition.
