Why was the Will Foster go thread merged with the Fozzie out thread?
They're 2 different questions.
Yes, true. But...
I guess because the "discussions" in each are exactly the same, and it's getting kinda boring reading the same shit again and again in half-a-dozen different threads.
Edit: Perhaps the new merged thread should be named "Foster?"Done
The two threads merged were “Will Foster go” & “Foster must go”
It was redundant. People were saying the same thing in both threads and even cross referencing posts

Has a Director of Rugby position been successful anywhere?
Ireland. Nucifora.
Considering his history I'd unkindly suggest they've achieved in spite of him.
Hehe. I know. In 2021 he nearly walked because of the Women's rugby debacle, but you can't deny he has been in place for a number of years and the Irish setup is now humming. He is the most powerful man in Irish rugby in reality because he is responsible for all High performance across all age groups and both sexes.
Has been a total success in Ireland. Ireland should be the envy of the NZRU. They have really got their shît together. Although munster is somewhat faded these days.

Whoever takes over from Foster now has a hell of a job ahead of them as the players confidence looks shot.

I was very confused, I clicked on the combined thread and it took me to a post 23 days ago on page 5.

Yeah same, I almost upvoted one of my own posts without realising thinking this guy knows what he's talking about

@Paekakboyz Who knows. Hopefully it's a bit like that unfounded rumour about Cane losing his captaincy.
The other possibility is that he turned them down and I can see why Razor might not want the top job now, he's got a year to turn this rubble around and we probably don't have the cattle to win the RWC regardless of the coach, so it's a risky job to take atm.
TBH, he would lose mana for me if that was the case. The cattle would be the same if he got the job back in 2020 and considering they're a rubble he basically has a free pass to stuff up over the next year and still be the coach after the RWC.

I don't know if any of the coaches are decent stonemasons.

When does an AB coach get a free pass….

Hopefully not true although something similar was mentioned on stuff today.
Wasn't it made clear they were getting another backs coach after SA tour?
It's probably referring to Leon MacDonald coming on board as backs coach - as Foster was only meant to be taking over Mooar's portfolio for SA, then I'd assume McDonald would join them for the upcoming NZ leg...

Not from a public perspective. There was strong discontent out there last year. The media weren’t game enough to get stuck in though.
Pressure will be up tenfold in my view and whoever comes in, there will be the shortest of honeymoon periods

Yep, and as almost all the ills have been placed at Foster's doorstep by commentators near and far, people will expect nothing less than rapid improvement.

Well that's that then. Lock the thread.
So all Sam is saying is that Gats was right, anyone could coach the ABs!
Foster (pro era) and McDonald have proven that is a fallacy.
And Sam's attitude is correct, even if he's actually wrong. The best players should think that way, we can win no matter what. But actually coaching does make a difference, little things like selection and game plan (or lack there of).
But if be more than happy if foster just left them to it like the first Irish test

Ireland can't beat us for 100 years, then suddenly go to better than 50% and the coach (and systems behind them) don't matter? Pull the other one!
The Irish used to play us with total passion, 100% commitment, and lose. Now they are far more controlled, less passionate, and win.
Coaching is a major part of any modern team. If you include the wider picture -- selections, training in the off season, fitness, mental preparation etc -- I would suggest it is at least as important as the players.
