Springboks v All Blacks I

A backline of
Smith, Mo’unga, Fainga’anuku, Havili, Goodhue, Reece, Jordan
Bench: Christie, B. Barrett, R. Ioane
And if it goes pear shape, the Fern will have plenty of fun. I will go into hiding…

poor from you
what happened to the halfback being "A Highlander"
Standards are slipping everywhere

@Winger that one will be interesting, but given Fozzie was selecting Taylor previously, you could argue if he starts again, that it isnt all Ryan, but then you would hope that maybe Ryan will know what buttons to push to get him firing again.
That said, ST needs to start against a top opposition to see if he can claim that role.

Robertson's not AB head coach yet.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we started with:
Bower, Sami T, Ta’avao, Va’ai, Whitelock, S. Barrett, Cane, Savea
De Groot, Taylor, Newell, A. Ioane, Papalii

That's more or less what I was suggesting yesterday.
Might be next week's selection if we lose.

It’s not easy under Albanese 😉
It’s T. Lander.

I know, that’s why I didn’t name Bryn Hall

I thought it has been made clear that Ryan has nothing to do with team selection yet.
-
@Old-Samurai-Jack I think it would be impossible to have a forward coach with zero input into the seleciton of the forward pack...recipe for disaster...
so on thinking, yeah thats probably exactly what happens...the selectors pick thier team and ask the forwards coach to work with them.
-
@taniwharugby I know cynicism is at an all time high right now, but I think it’s a little more organic than that. There would be regular communication amongst the coaches on who and what is working, how players are pulling up etc.
He may not be sitting at the table (just yet) when the team is finally decided but all the input will factor in.

The selectors don't name the 23, so it's irrelevant whether he's a selector or not. Selector is only involved in selecting the entire squad
I don't believe that's true. Fox made it pretty clear during the Irish series he's involved in the team selections.
-
@ACT-Crusader well the 2nd part of my post was pure sarcasm, I do not honestly believe the forwards coach would have no input into the selection of the pack.

Ryan himself said that he would only be concentrating on aspects of the forward play. He hasn't had time to do lineout, scrum, maul attack, maul defence and interplay. As @ACT-Crusader says, he will have had input eg this group or this guy are doing this aspect well but I doubt he gets final say

I blame Fox

@nzzp One thing Barrett is trying to do is take on the line so that the back line is less predictable although they are predictable. Moanga needs space and is a flyweight. Possibly better when everyone is fatigued.
His tendency to go backwards to find a hole is a bit disastrous at Test level. And that’s ignoring that he needs to be hidden on defence.

yeah I covered that off in my post.
