@BerniesCorner But if Robertson doesn't want the job now?

I'm not convinced they even asked him. But if he turned them down, there's always a danger the fish heads stop asking

The term Newshub used was that he "wanted the full runway" (i.e., 4 years before a RWC).

But that was just rumour, I don't think they asked because they haven't really considered ditching foster

I guess that rules out Leon as he's more of a backs and attack coach.

I hope they think and plan it through well. Taking MacDonald out stuffs the momentum the Blues have made. Taking Ryan from the Crusaders will impact them too. They did the same with Plumtree and Canes and now he’s out.

    Hahahahaha

He can afford to be patient. If Foster miraculously turns things around the job will be his in 2024. If not the job will be his sooner.

I’m surprised Macleod survived, our defence was clueless against the Irish.

So almost twice as long as Foster's appointment to prove himself (or not) at the top level then?

    Hmmm.

And if we do pretty well at RWC2023, you really can't see NZR getting rid of a coach who brought the AB's back from a disastrous home series against Ireland in '22, to a decent result in France a year later, can you?

So you think Foster will want to continue on after 2023, win or lose? I doubt it - he will have had 12 years with ABs by that stage

    what is a decent result?

For me, a 'decent result' is losing finalist, only one better than a decent result to me.

@canefan Hopefully the departing coaches still have role in New Zealand in the future, in one of the Super Rugby franchises.

I can understand why Scott McLeod is being kept.
Our defense against Ireland was top notch.
They made virtually no meters against his sophisticated system.

If one is being charitable, his structures probably work tolerably against SH sides.

The answer for Irish sieve probably lies in the NH. Will take a while to secure someone of the right calibre.

    Classic!!

Comedy corporate that sacks all the minions and doesn’t take ownership themselves.

Now that the rules have fucked rugby and I care little for the game, I hope we get fucking pumped this year. Lose the bled and I will laugh and laugh.

Why does one need to be available to get rid of one that from outside appears to be having a detrimental effect? Let one of the other coaches do it or heck, give the players free reign until you find a coach!

@Kirwan said in Foster must go / Assistant Coach changes:

I hope Ryan is allowed to make actual changes to how the tight five play. I also hope if he has a say in selection he rises above provincial bias because Taylor desperately needs to be dropped.

Also, if Moat was responsible for the shithouse attack, hopefully Foster can make a positive change here too.

I think not, obviously, so hopefully they are looking some out sense quickly.

Well someone has to take Plumtrees spot on panel. and as assistant coach I guess it would be Ryan., and if Ryan isn't allowed to makre required xhanges he wouldn't be there would he?

If Ryan is stepping up to the Forward coaching job replacing Plumtree,Then it would make sense he takes Plumtrees position as the other selector.
But it is Foster and NZR so probably could be anyone then.

From what I can understand he is taking the job of assistant coach which Plumtree was, and Greg Feek is specialised set piece coach? Not sure someone who knows more than me will probably explain his role.
