I thought Stevenson,Delaney, love and howden did very well in this game. All look like quality players.

Is it cheating, or are the refereeing interpretations just so different now between hemispheres that it is having a material impact on the outcome of matches?

Maybe NZ can bring across some NH refs to expose NZ players to these different interpretations. It isn't like they don't have money burning a hole in their pocket now 🙂

I thought the kicking game was the difference between the sides.

There's a real lack of quality kickers from hand in NZ rugby other than Zarn.

Doesn't help the Maori attack that they had a handbrake at 9.

Was a bit disappointed in Moorby - Super Rugby might be his level.

Has Billy Proctor ever beaten a tackle?

Some good stuff in there though - wish more nz forwards would run hard and straight like Delaney.

Well it's pretty hard to come to terms with the difference in Dickson's interpretations between test 1 and this game.

@KiwiMurph big fan of Delany, he's probably going to spend most of his career moving between 6 and lock but I hope he settles on one position because he is a solid player. He's the sort of no thrills player the Hurricanes need to build their pack around.

In Flanders, Laubscher, Delany and Howden the Canes have some good solid forwards coming through. The hard part will be fitting them all in when Blackwell and Prinsep already have rightful ownership of two starting jerseys.

Were his interpretations consistent for both teams is the question. What do you think?

Well judging by the bizarre penalty for Eklund not rolling away, after the first 20 minutes of ignoring it....no.

Can't believe people turned down tickets, I flew from Northland for the game. Fucking excellent, great atmosphere, great fun with the awesome Irish supporters. Weather was ok, under cover. And the Maori showed more innovation in the first quarter than the ABs shown this year. Very close to another memorable victory, I'm sure the first Irish try shouldn't have been allowed!

@stodders nah, just poorly coached, and I'm also questioning leadership now.

Have TJ as a mentor if you must. Hell, Ash Dixon too.
But ffs we need to start some decent halves who can play in the wet and to the ref.

If someone like TJ is what we are relying on to mentor our youngsters, we will be fucked for another generation after this

T J Perenara? I think he is an excellent rugby player, just not very good in the core skills required in his position.
    Which is an interesting position.

That’s a bit silly. My gripes with TJ are only based on current performance. His weakest skill is becoming ever weaker as his age increases to the point that it is very noticeable and hinders his side. That has zero to do with any abilities to mentor others

Maybe he reverted to instinct in this game? There was certainly a very different interpretation of “off the feet” in this game which I wonder my be a difference between Super and NH.
Even the Maori picked up on it and we’re lying on the ruck reaching for the ball by the end.

I think the feet just had to contact the ground. So lying on a player with a foot on teh groudn seemed like it was enough.

Some truly bizarre ref decisions. The ruck member grabbing TJP's arm was nuts - we hsould have asked if that was the standard and started doing it. The ref made his bed, he should lie in it.

Maori side looked weaker than in Game 1. They created enough to win, but just could finish, or defend at the right times - eg the first Irish try. Struggled with the ref as well. Kicking wasn't great.

I'm a huge fan of kickers aroudn the backline; a kicking 12 changes angles and can create space

Sullivan got a three. Stevenson an 8

I was tired watching the match but unsure if Sullivan was this bad. Or Stevenson this good

    Moorby a 6.

Tyrel Lomax: Anchored the Māori scrum against Ireland’s strong front row and would not look out of place if he was back in the test arena after his All Blacks omission. 6

@Winger Some random ratings in that article. I guess player ratings attract clicks, but a sports writer's ratings don't mean more than ours. It's just one person's opinion. I usually ignore those articles.
