More on that Du Plessis incident.
Fucking disgusting. I've got players from all over the Pacific and they get it regularly on the field from some quarters.
The problem is, you can't do much about it unless you've got evidence, and even a stat dec sometimes won't stack up.
I'm a Board member with Suburban rugby and am waiting for the day when - while playing or running the flag - I get the opportunity to absolutely fry some shit-for-brains who drops the wrong kind of language in earshot.

Having re watched both recent games, I am pleased how well Franks has gone in general play, esp on defence. He used to just run around with his arms up, but make fuck all takcles, then turn up and lean on rucks. But he's really upped his defensive work. He's a smokey for the RWC IMO, if our scrum struggles. Maybe not so much on attack, but if he becsome a key defender there is worth
Owen Franks was always very good at shifting bodies at ruck time. With the ball he where movements went to die, but cannot fault his cleanout work at all.

On the outer a little when the hierarchy got all hard for ball skills.

he had also slowed down a lot. definitely come to the end of his line as a test player.

@mariner4life Still pretty handy to have as a back-up option, if there are mulitple injuries.

The kind of guy who goes back to second grade at your club, then does a 10-15 minute shift off the bench for firsts. You'll never lose a scrum with them on the field.

I saw this posted on another forum.
I am not necessarily endorsing the analysis, but this was my take on the scrums in the game as well.
The TL/DR is "cheating Tahs got away with murder at scrum time because the ref was clueless".

What a great analysis, well worth a read, shows how Franks is a fucken master when it comes to scrum time. You just have to wonder with all the coaching and experts they have why Lomax and the Canes couldn't adapt to Bell and the wheeling. Would a good coach not spot it in the first scrum and get a message to the captain or team to adapt, talk to the ref etc. Instead they waited 30 minutes for Franks to come out and sort it.

Paddy Ryan issued a Warning
The SANZAAR Foul Play Review Committee has examined a matter relating to Paddy Ryan of the Waratahs for contravening Law 9.13 - A player must not tackle an opponent early, late or dangerously, after he was Red Carded during a Super Rugby Pacific Match at the Weekend.
Ryan has been issued with a Warning for his actions. A Warning may be issued by the SANZAAR Foul Play Review Committee for foul play incidents that are very close to, but in their opinion do not meet the Red Card threshold.
The incident occurred in the 76th minute of the match between the Waratahs and Hurricanes played at Leichhardt Oval in Sydney on Saturday 14 May 2022.
The SANZAAR Foul Play Review Committee of Michael Heron QC (Chair), Stefan Terblanche and John Langford assessed the case.
In his finding, Foul Play Review Committee Chair Michael Heron QC ruled the following:
"Having conducted a detailed review of all the available evidence, including all camera angles and additional evidence, including from the player and submissions from his legal representative, Aaron Lloyd, the Foul Play Review Committee found the foul play did not breach the red card threshold."
"With respect to sanction the Foul Play Review Committee deemed the act of foul play merited a Warning as it was close to, but did not breach the red card threshold. The Foul Play Review Committee deemed that the significant mitigating factors, including the ball carrier significantly dropping in height, rotation, and additional players being involved within the tackle, mitigated the sanction to a Warning."
"The player is therefore free to resume playing.” -

Get Lomax off, he’s crap.
So not AB quality then.
Lomax is probably the winner in the "Most improved player of the year" category.

Yeah although if you'd asked me halfway through the season I would've said Bower, he's certainly dropped out if favour, but he was a shining light in the Irish series and seemed like the only forward that could break the advantage line (because the only other one that could have was sitting in the stands).

@cgrant I be pleased if Lomax does, I really got on his wagon we first arrived at Ta$man, just loved how he scrummed, had a back so straight you coauld put a cuppa on it, but took a while to really come through. I from old school that reckom a real straight back allows the power coming through from behind to go where it sholud.
