Black Caps tour of Pakistan

Does forfeiture of the games by default now mean they count toward the rankings as the lack of DRS had no bearing on their "creative home umpires" down to adjudicate so is now no longer a valid reason for them not the count. Can't recall what happened with the Test Championship points allocations when the Aussies declined to tour South Africa but if you don't turn up they should be awarded to the opposition. Still Covid19 did have a bearing on that situation.

Yeah aussie didn't get any points, but don't think they were awarded to SA either. I know the England board was considering trying claim forfeiture for the last game against India.
Anyway ODI's weren't actually part of the ODI championship:
So they only thing on the line was standard ranking points.

@Bones perhaps they should be more taken aback by the rampant Islamic extremism in the country that means you have to take all threats (like this bomb threat) seriously.
-
Fuck Pakistan. backwards shithole bordering on a failed state. Why in the fuck would anyone go there?

All the cricket pages I follow on FB are predictably full of rampant Pakistan fans slamming the “cowardly” Black Caps and extolling the virtues of their “amazing, beautiful, safe” country.
….and I thought Indian fans were bad.
Yep, all sorts of vile rubbish was being posted on the White Ferns social media updates during their ODI last night.
-
A real shame all round.
The intelligence NZ received could be anywhere on the scale from good to bad, correct to outright wrong.
But a civilian PM advising a civilian cricket administrator on the placement of civilian sportsmen, for just a game (admittedly also it involves money) - it can only end one way, on the side of precaution.
Individual players who want to play in PSL etc can make their own risk decisions. But in this case David White has to take responsibility for other peoples safety.
A google search tells me that their were warnings for the Sri Lanka tour in 2009 that were ignored.
I don't know what the answer is going forward.

As a cricket fan it is annoying if a game can’t go ahead, but that pales into insignificance compared to player welfare and safety. As @No-Quarter says it’s potentially dangerous enough for Joe Bloggs let alone high profile sportsmen who’s every move can be tracked pretty easily via schedules on line. To hell with all of that shit.

Now that the players have left Pakistan NZC will need to say what the "specific, credible security threat" was. Pakistan probably won't tour NZ in a while, and they have been one of the regular visitors.
No they don’t, you don’t expose intelligence assets and info like that. Certainly not for something like making NZC look a bit better

I would have thought Pakistan would need to explain why their intel service won't miss like they did in 2002 and 2009.
Pakistan IMO seriously are shooting themselves in the foot here, NZ didn't start the tour to pull out. After the vitriol it is difficult to see anyone giving the "benefit of the doubt" to touring Pakistan for a long while.

Same security firm the English team use, apparently.
Things are changing fast over there, though. They border Afghanistan, and that place has changed massively and quickly

Full of extremists looking for something to do or a point to make

@rotated I'm certainly not defending Pakistan or the ISI, and I wouldn't tour there. But we run the risk of Pakistan pulling out of future tours to NZ, England, etc in retaliation if they aren't given some general explanation. This could get very messy and even more political.

Maybe they were given the explanation but they are trying to deflect to save face with their fans?
-
@mariner4life and the way they are collectively whinging about us leaving won't endear them to any future tourists. Just because you've had 99 days without incident doesn't mean you ignore warnings about something happening on day 100.

I did read this:
Pakistan’s Interior Minister, Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, told a press conference the threat was a conspiracy from another country, and “an attempt to damage our efforts for peace in the region”.

Well good on them for being fluffybunnies about it
