@canefan I know Holland is on Razor's list. I heard somewhere that Razor wanted his Crusader assistants + Holland.

Ugh. He might be a better assistant than HC

2015 canes, right? Or have I got them messed up cos they swapped roles like a pair of coaching swingers

Isn't Holland the current coach? Or are there two of them?

Anyone have thoughts on Jason O'Hallorans progress in Japan (haven't seen any of his team playing)

He is someone I've had hopes of rising up to become part of the AB coaching team.

@taniwharugby Jason O’Halloran is one of the best Rugby analysts I have every heard on Radio in fact I will go one step better , the best I have heard .
Is not shy to critique a players strength and weakness and with so much detail .
When he was with Dave Rennie at the Turbos, had some of the best attacking moves off set pieces I had seen and that was with a middle of the road championship team .
One can only wonder what he would bring to a team with a much higher skill level .

The team seems to be coming along nicely. Less helter skelter, more physicality, lots of players coming along nicely. Are we ready to throw Foster a few credit crumbs?

Absolutely. Credit where it's due - he's improved his selections dramatically, and the team seem to be performing.

That said, I am absolutely not convinced there was a basis to reappoint based on the body of work when they made the decision. This tour was going to shape up to be critical, and so far he looks good.

@nzzp I guess there is the argument of stability and now he is 'safe' he can start putting a bit more of his stamp on things...certainly a step in the right direction

Agree though, the process appeared farcical, and the stupidity to put in a 2 year term was also going to create this situation, exagerrated by Covid.

One swallow doesn’t make a summer etc. But yes looking good, but so did Hansen ‘16. I really wanted them to do the entire year before making a decision, that’s when I will start to believe. A very succesful 2021 will almost balance out one of ABs owrst years ever in 2020. If he goes through undefeated and in style, I will say he is in the positive.

What he is doing well is starting to settle in selections, he's getting a tune out of the Ioane brothers, and we are upping the physicality. If we can match the Boks up front and win next week that will be a big step forward

@canefan yeah, his biggest criticism is that he's settling on a several people lots of us would have picked last year

Let’s not forget that we have only played against a club player filled Tonga, Fiji, a historically poor Wallabies and a defence only Argentina.
I don’t think any proper judgement can be made until we play the Boks and some of the NH teams. Hopefully the trend of not making stupid selections and not using stupid tactics continues.
Still got concerns over our discipline, scrum and lineout.

He even got the Chiefs to a final once...

The question mark that has loomed around Foster for much of his coaching career is whether he can go from good-ish to great. Or just show some consistency.

Well you say that, but Argentina scored points against the Boks. Oz beat them.

Or maybe he identified areas where improvement was required, and made those players work on them, to increase the capability, depth and competitiveness for every jersey? But, no, only an astute coach would do that...

So what if Arg scored a couple of points against the Boks. They are rubbish at the moment. An comfortable win against them is absolutely the minimum required standard for the ABs. One that wasn’t achieved last year.

As for Aus beating the Boks, that is pretty much standard for the last 20 years isn’t it? The Boks have always struggled in Aus.

Doesn’t change the fact that Bok style and players will be a bigger test of where the ABs are than the teams we have played over the last 2 years.

Again; I'm pointing out based on form the Boks won't be much of a test.

Yeah and then when we beat them, judgement can't be made until we play Japan and Canada and then after that, well Foster hasn't beaten the moon has he!

Foz has made plenty of comment that last year's AB campaign was pretty short and rushed so I think that played a lot into his selections.

He basically tried to shoehorn as much experience into the side as possible (Jordie on the wing, Goodhue to 12 etc).

This season now that they've had a more 'normal' test season his selections are much different.
