@gt12 ESPN stats actually aren't that bad; just don't look straight after the game, because they usually make a few corrections later.

The correct/official stats are on the SANZAAR website and IIRC, they use OPTA.

@gt12 in case it wasn't clear, I was the being the opposite of completely serious.

Thanks for the stats though, interesting to see such a high count for Ta'avao, seems to have a high workrate - to the point where he got out of the ruck too quick and made himself a target!

I was just getting in before @Kirwan came and decided to swing the ban hammer 🙂

I figured you were probably the piss but I was also trying to think of when and where those tackles were missed, so went for a squiz at ESPN (who are also bad, but not as bad as Rugbypass).

I'd love to know what a license to the Opta stats (or a better service with ruck attendance etc. ) costs. Just trying to figure about how to fold that into a grant proposal.

me mate the coach, says while they had Opta at both his last gigs, they only used them for very generic stuff, and always trusted their own analyst much more - they also tracked a whole heap of stuff that Opta wasn't able to provide.

@gt12 I'm willing to double my patreon if we hire @Stargazer as the official statman.

    Current standings:

    12 Akira Ioane
    10 Sam Whitelock
    9 Aaron Smith
    9 Dalton Papali'i
    8 David Havili
    6 Luke Jacobson
    5 Dane Coles
    5 Will Jordan
    3 Codie Taylor
    3 Richie Mo'unga
    2 Sevu Reece
    1 Rieko Ioane
    1 Damian McKenzie
    1 Ethan Blackadder

Imagine the scenes if Akira actually wins this.

Who actually doesn't want him in the team anymore?

dude you know there is a whole cohort just waiting for a mistake so they can pile back in about attitude and workrate and other madeup stuff. Same for his brother.

Yep, it's notable a couple of previous critics on here that can't even compliment him (many have to be fair).

The most pleasing thing for me last night was Akira's breaks were in the backend of the game. Puts to bed any fitness or workrate bullshit.

Reading your posts there Kirwan you seem to take the Akira thing personally. There will always be differences of opinion on an anonymous internet forum, can't spend spend your life waiting to feel "justified" with your viewpoints. Well you could I suppose, but it'll be never ending.

No, I just enjoy arguing on a .... looks around .... discussion forum.

Not sure why so many people struggle with that concept.

Difference is, unlike Stargazer, I'm not pretending I don't have favourites.

Might be time for a new Avatar, been a while.

Perhaps he didnt get 10 out of 10 because he missed a couple of tackles?, rugby pass has a couple more stats. In the context of the game, he was on another level to most

Interestingly I hear Scott Barrett our top tackler???

Fake news, unless of course you can produce a fancy graphic that has an action shot of Scott and large bolded numbers with his stats

and now he’s starting to put a couple of games together

Now this a disingenuous comment from Fozzie ... if you and your former co-fatty in charge had actually selected him earlier he would have had a chance to put a couple of games together.

To be fair to Foster, he could hardly overrule Shag on team selection. It's under Foster that Akira has been given the chance to lock-in the 6 jersey and he deserves some credit for that.

Under Shag, Cane got left out of the starting line-up of a WC semi-final.

Foster says 'meet the new captain'

Foster would have had a say in the backline selections but the finger needs to be pointed at Hansen and Cron for the non-selection of Ioane and the Barrett/Cane debacle.

This is a good point - the Cron emphasis might be important as well.

Yeah, the one bloke who would have caused England serious problems from the word go.

That loss still rankles with me - and not just for the Cane omission. Some of the dumbest play I've seen from an AB team for years, mainly from the senior players

But I thought Shag said coaching was 51-49 to 49-51 him then Foster? Plus let us face it Foster preferred Shannon F ... or has he called Akira "family" lately?

I was at the game and I'm still fucking wild about it. Those fucking coaches and their cute selections.

The performance of some senior leaders on that day still fucks me off and I think really lessens Read's influence as a 'great' All Black.

Retallick was a non-entity and Scott Barrett didn't help the line-out at all, but slowed us down around the filed against a team with two turnover specialist. Nice.

Sam Whitelock was fucking average (with one terrible penalty), although he somewhat gets a pass for the line-out steal against SA in 2015.

We got fuck all help up front and played Ofa on the wrong side off the bench (with fucking Ta'avao off the bench too FFS), while Sam Cane sat there for 40 minutes watching us lose.

We started Bridge, and a midfield who hardly knew each other, kicked the ball away constantly, without purpose, and ah fuck it, time for some Scotch.

Not wanting to rehash old pain, but the worst thing for me was the boys coming out of the sheds and playing the same way. Shows that the coaches shat the bed as much as the players did
