@frank What I don't understand is why posters try to diminish someone's stats/results by comparing him with another player, who also played well. Both can be good or even great. Just be happy that there seems to be a solution for previous "gaps" in the backrow and midfield.

I dunno, I guess your post putting up Havilli's stats looked a little bit of a petty response to Akira's graphic above. Frank was just pointing out that a good 70m of those 90m for DH were from an intercept.

I'm sure that was the last thing on your mind though, right πŸ™‚

You guessed wrong, as per usual when commenting on a post of mine. If that's your motivation for posting things, that's on you. I don't have that mindset. The Akira and Havili posts are the only ones with stats I've seen. I like it if they highlight the positives. If I find another one with good stats, I'll post that too.

    Stuff.co.nz gave Akira a 10 out of 10.

You can’t beat that so turns out he is perfect after all

and now he’s starting to put a couple of games together

Now this a disingenuous comment from Fozzie ... if you and your former co-fatty in charge had actually selected him earlier he would have had a chance to put a couple of games together.

Perhaps he didnt get 10 out of 10 because he missed a couple of tackles?, rugby pass has a couple more stats. In the context of the game, he was on another level to most

Interestingly I hear Scott Barrett our top tackler???

    Current standings:

    12 Akira Ioane
    10 Sam Whitelock
    9 Aaron Smith
    9 Dalton Papali'i
    8 David Havili
    6 Luke Jacobson
    5 Dane Coles
    5 Will Jordan
    3 Codie Taylor
    3 Richie Mo'unga
    2 Sevu Reece
    1 Rieko Ioane
    1 Damian McKenzie
    1 Ethan Blackadder

Imagine the scenes if Akira actually wins this.

Who actually doesn't want him in the team anymore?

dude you know there is a whole cohort just waiting for a mistake so they can pile back in about attitude and workrate and other madeup stuff. Same for his brother.

Yep, it's notable a couple of previous critics on here that can't even compliment him (many have to be fair).

The most pleasing thing for me last night was Akira's breaks were in the backend of the game. Puts to bed any fitness or workrate bullshit.

Reading your posts there Kirwan you seem to take the Akira thing personally. There will always be differences of opinion on an anonymous internet forum, can't spend spend your life waiting to feel "justified" with your viewpoints. Well you could I suppose, but it'll be never ending.

No, I just enjoy arguing on a .... looks around .... discussion forum.

Not sure why so many people struggle with that concept.

Rugbypass generally speaking have the shittiest stats.

ESPN has him making 10 and missing 1 (with one turnover conceded).

Using their stats, most tackles missed:

Weber made 6 and missed 4
Scot Barrett made 13 and missed 2 (2 Turnovers conceded too)
Havili made 14 and missed 2 (1 turnover)
Savea made 9 and missed 2
    Taukeiaho made 7, missed 2
Big Karl made 4, missed 2
    Ta'Avao made 7, missed 2

I think you have to take every website that is not offically used by the teams themselves with a grain of salt. There is no way I am going to waste my time to count or even take the due diligence on data governance to consider and apply consistently what is a tackle etc, what is a missed tackle. As I am sure its different on each as well and unless you know each definition

Eitherway all have Akira missing some in their own defintions.. therefore he must have played terribly. ha ha...tui ad for the day ........yeah right

@gt12 in case it wasn't clear, I was the being the opposite of completely serious.

Thanks for the stats though, interesting to see such a high count for Ta'avao, seems to have a high workrate - to the point where he got out of the ruck too quick and made himself a target!

I was just getting in before @Kirwan came and decided to swing the ban hammer πŸ™‚

I figured you were probably the piss but I was also trying to think of when and where those tackles were missed, so went for a squiz at ESPN (who are also bad, but not as bad as Rugbypass).

I'd love to know what a license to the Opta stats (or a better service with ruck attendance etc. ) costs. Just trying to figure about how to fold that into a grant proposal.

@gt12 ESPN stats actually aren't that bad; just don't look straight after the game, because they usually make a few corrections later.

The correct/official stats are on the SANZAAR website and IIRC, they use OPTA.

me mate the coach, says while they had Opta at both his last gigs, they only used them for very generic stuff, and always trusted their own analyst much more - they also tracked a whole heap of stuff that Opta wasn't able to provide.
