This game will tells us a few things,
BB is he still want we remember hopefully he is.
Weber is he really an AB HB
JB is he our best FB option.
How important is Whitelock as a lock and a leader. If the First 3 are no then we badly need Smith,Mounga and we will need Whitelock back for SA.
I disagree, it is just one test, a massively changed side. It's not like the side with Smith, Mo'unga and Whitelock looked that great vs Fiji or a fair bit of Bled 1. This game, combined with the 2 argentina games, might answer some of those questions. That's when we might have a good idea, one test is never enough of a sample
Yes and no it will give us some idea,I think we all know rugby enough to see through the one test scenario.
Since when? One bad test is usually enough to write off a player.
There was that most recent RWC game against England .. and most of those players are still with us. Plus I think JB has had a few howlers early on...
Yeah, the ABs have seemed to operate a "credit-in-the-bank" kind of system for ages, or JB would have been axed quite a few times. Players who don't show what the coaches are looking for seem to get eased out ... like Josh Ioane, Sotuto I suspect (with work-ons). AB squad selection has always looked okay to me, maybe if anything a bit slow to drop a few.
It's not exactly like Eddie Jones who pulled a young lock in his first game before half-time ... never to play for England again? A few similar examples with Eddie.
The core issues since maybe 2017 and Shag have more been a lack of selection consistency (combinations cannot develop) and too much flexibility trying to cram all the Skillz(TM) into one side (playing people out of position). Really these seem more coaching/strategy issues.
Team for this game looks good and selection approach pretty coherent ... again

@landp yeah I'm trying to think who was so mediocre they never played again in the ABs..
..can't be Laumape...maybe Fifita? Even that is stretching it..
-

Sione Lauaki (RIP)? Did he every play again after that game vs Oz in 2008?

Yup, good call, just going back a few years now.
-
@landp Samoa? 17 games though.. https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/2459972/Lauaki-can-still-be-a-force-in-All-Blacks

Benson Stanley, Jarrod Hoeata, Afeaki (half a game), Saili, Halai, Bird, Tom Taylor, Pulu, Moala, Ngatai, Broadhurst, Tamanivalu, Parsons, Duffie, Hemopo, TTT, Proctor, Evans, J Ioane, PUJ, Cameron....all for various reasons very short career ABs. A few definite discards (Saili, Halai, Broadhurst, Hemopo, Proctor, Evans come to mind)
We may even see some recent ones discarded as a core squad is settled pre-RWC. Maybe Grace, Christie, Sotutu, Ennor, Aumua...?
-
@mikethesnow but they present a different challenge to Aus, plus, beat us last year...
@Crucial Broadhurst had to retire due to concussion didn't he? Don't think he was discarded

started against the Bokke, was our starting lock that season, left behind to bulk up at the end of season tour before the laws changed in the off season and speed was suddenly emphasised again.
Seemed to have an aversion to hitting rucks, too -

Bryne Evans, not Nick Evans right? I have zero memory of him, had to google him tbh.

@landp who was that lock out of interest? That’s so Eddie

Yeah, had forgotten. Thought there was a gap but yes, he got his head knock in the NPC straight after his AB debut.

I'll post a link when I remember/find the name. I googled "Eddie Jones drops" and got about 50 million hits
To be fair, he normally lets them finish the game or their 60 minutes before he drops them after their England debut ... probably goes like "Nah mate, you're not what I'm after, see ya"
"Unique" is the word that comes mind ... but he has a razor sharp rugby brain.

Recent 1 match All Blacks - missing last year I think. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_New_Zealand_national_rugby_union_players

If they come within 10 pts this year then they’ll have done well/you’ve shit the bed.
They’re really not that good

Hope there is not a second shock result this weekend. Hard to believe Canada's second stringers convincingly beat USA last night in the World Cup qualifier. But it goes to show that anything can happen.
Not sure why Australia is being written off when AB's have so many first stringers out and they are playing a team with a huge home crowd advantage. It will be great merit if they win convincingly.
