Boks changing the front row at half time did not work out for them.

At half time I'd have said that Daley, Lawes, Price, Hogg and LCD had played themselves out of the test team for next week. But other than Daly they all redeemed themselves in the second.

You could see what the Lions were trying to do in attack, and that was to get it out wide, however they need someone in the midfield that is either not going to get driven back or has quick hands. Daly’s probably not that guy.

So as in impartial viewer, what a boring game of rugby.
Only the scoreboard kept it interesting.
It seems in the last couple years and constantly getting worse, with every try we have to spend 5 minutes looking for a reason not to award it, its getting old and really slows the game down.
I would be interested to see how much of the game the ball was out of play, seemed a lot more than usual.
Not a game I would ever bother to re-watch sadly.

    Awesome game.

Apparently this series is not over yet. Who's this commentator?

Good for drama, not so much for quality.

Lions were awful in the first half, didn't think they'd be able to turn that around. Boks OK but looking a long way from their best.

Largely reminiscent of the last lions tour IMO.

Disagree on the game - that was a really physical, hard fought game with pretty damn good skills. Very few errors. I thoroughly enjoyed it, the level was a big big step up on what' we've seen so far this year. And it's what you'd expect - quality players lifting for a big series that means something.

Agree with you about the TMO though. At least the refs now let things play out, then figure it out. Reckon they the decisions pretty well got it right as well - but I think Lions 13 was saved by the knock on from Kolbe. @Damo may be able to help, but do you really ignore professional fouls (pulling back player) after the initial knockon?

Five minute sin faf de klerk looked very average, with poor kicking, but built nicely. Tom Currie cost three quick penalties and seemed fairly ineffective. Itoje was a mixed bag, but has great length of reach - and if refs let you latch on the ball, why the hell wouldn't you.

Overall thoroughly enjoyable, pity the TMO decisions were all so tight as it took away from the game a bit. Woul dhave loved a crowd there

@akan004 ah bollocks - yeah< i thought a card would be the right call. It's like head high tackles though, the framework just gets ignored.

Actually, I didn't really mention it, but I thought that was a bad call, in the context of a TMO that went back for a 'head high' that was amrginal earlier in the game.

Keohane is unhinged. What a piston wristed gibbon.

Le Roux landed on his arm so I was happy with just a penalty. Also, Berry has the final call, not the TMO.

The counterpoint to that is that sort of lift and drive is exactly what's trying to be eliminated form the game. The aggravating factors for me were the intentionality (lifted from a standing position), and particularly the dropping/driving through the tackle. I think YC would be appropriate, but I far far prefer to sanction the action, rather than the outcome (ie lifting, rather than how they land)

Lions front row struggled to get into the game - suspect it might have been the unit versus individuals because by around 30 minutes they were troubling the SA front row and the SA front row looked tired. Changing the front row at half time wasn't initially noticable because of the Lions success at the start of the second half (kicking, followed by line out, followed by try) but think they did OK for the next 10 minutes until Lions made their own substitutions.

Overall, the two SA front rows look down on fitness versus Lions.

Jonker - “Happy with the pass

Very strange all round - said the forward pass was OK but said he was offside anyway

Sky (Mike Tindell and Nigel Owens) showed an in-depth review - forward pass looked flat from the angles they showed. Offside from the front angle versus overhead/reverse angle shown during the game, accounting for angle of the view showed le Roux's leading foot was in-front of the kicker so looked like Jonker got it right.

Lawes, AWJ and Itoje has been massive for the Lions.

I thought Lawes was terrible and AWJ invisible in the first half. But good second half from all of them.

    Ha fucking ha

    Lawes should have been MOTM

    Then Kwagga
