O'Keeffe did the right thing in giving the YCs. Coles, at least, needed to clam down and sitting in the naughty chair for 10 mins was the best way to do that.

Yeah definitely agree - ref needed to put a stop to it in the hopes of stamping it out for the rest of the match.

One thing I do really hate and always have is the bullshit retaliation is worse than the original offence.

Just watched reply. Scrappy but very entertaining. Some actual positive signs for the Canes there. Maybe next year won’t be a total Hammett.

Farking hilarious with the Smith captains referral being reversed and then Coles scoring. Hate those bloody things anyway.

Yeah Smith should probably forget about Captain's referrals.

The whole problem with these captain's referrals is that they have to be made within 10 seconds. So if a captain hasn't seen an incident himself or it happened at some distance from the captain, he has to trust a team mate's assessment of what the infringement was and who was/were involved. I think that's why most of the captain's referrals seem to have been incidents that involved captains and why sometimes the referrals were too late.

Coles my favourite AB against my team the Clan. They'll have a laugh, a beer in the sheds, and the fans will talk about things on forums that don't matter.

Great to see the Canes run in some gorgeous try and secure a win.

Coles has a point. There should never have been cards involved in this.

Also if palming someone in the face is a yellow card offence now then the Crusaders player that did the same thing a couple of weeks ago should count his lucky stars that the refs are horribly inconsistent in their officiating this year.

    Ref should apologise to Colesy.

I don't care when Coles decides to play a little niggly with a grin on his face. You know what they say, he's an annoying prick at times, but he's our annoying prick!

An enjoyable game to watch as a neutral. Some great tries and skills on display. This match also highlighted for me the impact of the NH player drain on NZ rugby, with so many former AB's and 2nd tier players now playing for NH clubs. Both the Highlanders and Hurricanes are fielding the weakest squads they've had in their history.

Why the fuck didn't the Highlanders field a David Somebody, so that I could quip that "to be fair, he only referred it After-David told him to".

I don’t know about that, we’ve had some pretty weak squads over the years, this one has still managed three wins nz this year including the crusaders

Yeah it's a pretty weird thing to say about a team that's beaten both finalists. Weakness is more about selection than player drain for them anyway.

Unless he was saying it's the weakest ever crusaders squad but just couldn't bear to write it.

No it doesn't, Sam you dick.

Double yellow card in Hurricanes v Highlanders clash leaves everyone gobsmacked

Double yellow card in Hurricanes v Highlanders clash leaves everyone gobsmacked

While a double yellow card isn't unheard of in top-level professional rugby encounters, normally the dual sin-binning is a result of a fairly comprehensive stoush between two players.

I thought the worst action of the whole yc drama was Coles tipping Hunt beyond the horizontal in the initial cleanout 🤔

@siam I saw that live too but it wasn’t that bad after seeing it on the replay.

Yeah I don't think any of it was bad either but they seem to apply the letter of the law very arbitrarily. This time "beyond horizontal" made way for "retaliation".
I've given up making sense of what they're trying to officiate
