    Toulouse target Wallabies playmaker

Toulouse have set their sights on signing Wallabies' playmaker James O'Connor as injury cover.    The 54 test cap utility back sta...

O'Connor reportedly has a clause in his contract with the Reds and Rugby Australia which would allow him to join the French club for the remainder of the season.

Would they release him to play over here?

That all makes a lot more sense than the previous article. I hope Rettalick is the extra player to be signed for 2021

@ARHS It sounds like O'Connor's manager leaked some fake news to the media to strengthen his position in the new contract negotiations with Rugby Australia. It wouldn't be the first time a player's management does something like that.

Gatland starting, knowing the Chiefs coaches.

I didn't see Gatland playing much in the NPC. But he looked good when I did.

James O'Connor's move to the Chiefs reportedly blocked by Rugby Australia

James O'Connor's move to the Chiefs reportedly blocked by Rugby Australia

James O'Connor's quest to join the Chiefs next year is over before it began with Rugby Australia blocking his request for a release.

The Chiefs have instead signed former Hamilton Boys’ High first XV captain Rameka Poihipi as the final member of their 2021 squad.

Other than having ties to the region, this makes little more sense than signing Bieber did. Poihipi is a 10/12, and the Chiefs aren't short of those in the squad.

I think this is an ok solution. I see him more as a 12. Is Nankivell fit from the outset? More potential than Matt Garland, who is likely the best local option.

He’s is a 12 lot of ability but for me he has lost a lot of confidence due to a heap of injuries over the last 2 years.
The Crusaders opted for Isia Punivai over Him as more X factor so I heard.

I've nothing against Poihipi, having watched him play since 1st XV days, but if you look at the Chiefs squad a winger is needed more than a midfield back. Four wingers (including Tiatia in this mix) becomes three if Nanai-Seturo is unavailable with sevens commitments. Sullivan might end up playing on the wing due to numbers.

Yes worried about wing options if nanai seturo plays sevens. Maybe Lowe will surprise me.

I'd also add that if a 2nd 5 is needed why not just re-sign Leger?

sullivan is barely mitre 10 quality in midfield, probably only got contract as he signed muli year agreement ?. agree that we need more spark on the wings but really only have four midfielders now plus a couple of part timers (wainui, sullivan)

@Bovidae is he back for the coming season? He's a bit of a unit eh, would be pretty handy if he finally hit his straps...

@Bones I assume Harris is fully fit again after his operation, and expect he will be the starting hooker.

    @Yeetyaah

Gallagher Chiefs and Bay of Plenty hooker Nathan Harris has been ruled out of the upcoming 2020 Investec Super Rugby season. Harris has been rehabilitating from a fractured ankle in September during the 2019 Mitre 10 Cup season. Following a period of shoulder pain, Harris was advised to have shoulder surgery to repair his rotator cuff, which he recently undertook in early January. The rehabilitation period is six months making him unavailable for the 2020 Investec Super Rugby season but is set to return for the 2020 Mitre 10 Cup season.
