We now know where Scott Barrett stand in the pecking order. Lock number 4 and he will be Lock number 5 when BBBR returns.
I think they rate him pretty highly but are clearly not impressed with what he did on Saturday. He's been dropped because of the yellow card imo.
Agree.
Good to see him dropped though. He’s still young and lessons need to be made of that stupid stuff.
@Winger my selection of Ioane on the wing was more hope than thinking that’s what they would do. They appear to be using this series to build Jordie’s experience out the back as they see the upside in his game but some creases to iron out.

Surprised that no one has picked up that this grouping played a very different style to what we saw last week's team sent out to do.
For the first 5 minutes or so last week I was wondering if Akira was even playing then realised that he had been stationed out wide in the gameplan. That is not what they do with Frizzel.
Same with the backs and back reserves. This group has an obvious two playmaker system that requires speed from the 15 to slot in at second phase. JB doesn't offer that, hence the selection of DMac.
I'm not advocating that all of this is good just pointing out what is actually quite obvious and possibly reason for the selections that are being questioned.
Glad to see that the selectors are enforcing consequences for dumbness though. Just as RIoane was punished it appears that SB is also and TJ has been dropped (about 30 minutes too late)That's where Akira was on attack, similar to how the Blues used him pre-2019 (Very Read like) but he was tight on defense, and that's where he shone. Everyone knows he can make great runs and links well with backs, what impressed was the defensive grunt work, literally lifting Aussies out of rucks, hitting hard on defence, and showing great desperation with one handed tackles.
He also stole a bloody lineout.
Much higher ceiling than Frizzel IMO, and it's the same as with Clark and Bridge, he just needs to move on from being convervative and reward form.
I don’t disagree with any of that. Not quite sure why you quoted my post. I wasn’t saying Akita played poorly just that the overall tactics for the team were different and were looking to possibly play to the strengths you mention.
If going back to the other setup then I can see why they might think they have the right group for it.
I would hope that Akira has been given an assurance that they will give him game time next game.I was agreeing with you, and making a Read comparison to point out that they may want that wide ranging loose forward again. Good news for Robinson as well.
I just wanted to highlight the defence work because that were he has received criticism in the past. He couldn’t have been better in that area.

I think I mentioned that he was playing a Ginga Jesus style of game in the match thread.
But agree with you on his defence and ruck work, he was hitting hard. The Tongan will need to show he can do the same this weekend rather than just be 'busy'.

@Nepia but as also noted in the thread, they seem to use Frizell differently, he isnt stationed wide like Akira was, so unless they decide to use him like that this week, isnt a direct comparison.
But that wasn't the stuff I was commenting that he'd need to show he'd do the same - doesn't matter where they're standing on the field they should be hitting people and rucks hard.

give him another shot, hell, even off the bench, frizell could cover lock
That's what surprises me. Can see the logic in sticking to the Bled 3 starting XV as much as poss. but Akira not even on the bench?
-
@Nepia I know what you are getting at, but when 2 players are used differently in different parts of the field it will make a difference in some of the stats you want to measure them by.
Number alone dont tell the story.
I'd prefer Akira to have started, so not defending Frizell I just dont think you can put the numbers along side and say he didnt do as well.
What is the Argie side gonna look like? Is it gonna be tight or a 50 pointer?

They'd be well drilled and short of a gallop. Competitive early and then fade I expect.

I would expect the Argies to get stuck into us maybe a bit of rough stuff. Everyone thinks the ABs are vulnerable at the moment so hopefully we will put 50+ on them and make a real statement

Foster had specifically said TJ and Scott are rotations. Maybe just bullshit so he's not throwing them under the bus, but?
-
@Machpants when you look at the rest of the side, I reckon thats BS.

Yeah, almost certainly bs.

Maybe you could go back and watch the first 3 games without an eye patch? Frizzel definitely hits a lot of breakdowns... maybe not as noticeable because he's not standing to the side of the ruck with one hand on it...
-
To me what Frizell brings is really high number of involvements, great athleticism (in a useful way not a Fifita way) and terrific aerial skills (restarts and lineout).
What Akira brings is a lot of strength/power (ball running, breakdowns, tackling) whilst also being very quick and useful in the lineout himself.
It's shaping as an interesting battle.
-
It'll be really interesting too see how the Argy go. They've had a very decent time together as a squad. Something you'd only normally get in a world cup year. Played a couplu of minnows games. They've seen how to fuck over the undisciplined abs. They could make a game of it. Especially game two after a test Vs has then Oz under their belt

@Bones said in Argentina One: Parramatta, 14 November:
@KiwiMurph yeah I think the battle is probably more between Sotutu and Aoane, than Frizzel.
Foster seems wedded to Cane/Savea/Other, which puts all three against each other.
My personal view is that, whilst working fine against the lighter packs, is unbalanced against a Pom or Bok unit.
Early days but I’m drawn towards a Cane/Sotutu/[Frizell/Aoane] combo, with Savea on bench.
Seems like Akira will get a run in Puma 2.

That the same England that play 2 opensides?
Yes. One is 6’ 3” and 17 stone 5!
