Blues v Canes
-

Based on the injuries this would be my side for next week. I would also give Otere Black a crack at 10 on his home patch against the Force and switch Barrett to Fullback.

1. Chris Eves

2. Dane Coles

3. Jeff Toomaga Allen

4. Blade Thomson

5. Mark Abbott

6. Vaea Fifita

7. Ardie Savea

8. Victor Vito

9. TJ Perenara

10. Otere Black

11. Julian Savea

12. Ngani Laumape

13. Vince Aso

14. Cory Jane

15. Beauden Barrett

Reserves: 16. Leni Apisai (Pending Concussion) 17. Reggie Goodes 18. Loni Uhila 19. Brad Shields (Pending Finger) 20. Callum Gibbins 21. Te Toiroa Tahuriorangi 22. James Marshall 23. Willis Halaholo
-
Don't know how they managed to win that. Blues had all the ball in the final quarter. Both teams have massive potential but are raw as hell. The Blues in particular will severely fark someone up if they get things to click.

A few stats that stood out to me.

Running Metres

Blues - 534m

Hurricanes - 248m

Beaten Defenders

Blues - 36

Hurricanes - 16

Clean Breaks

Blues - 14

Offloads

Blues - 22

Hurricanes - 4

We needed to come away with more than 19 points with these sort of stats.

We needed to be rewarded for our hard work, but came away with no points on too many of our attacking raids. Goal kicking, indiscipline and accuracy around the breakdown were our downfall last night.
-

HOwever, what really cheesed me off (and what no-one is talking about) was the Canes taking the blind side defender out of play to allow TJP to run through. We were blowing up about this at the ground, not sure why it hasn't been discussed.

Those are the stats of a team that should have won comfortably. Unfortunately the Blues squandered possession and territory with bad discipline.
-

still havent worked out how opinions work huh Winger?

Seen plenty of passes like the one to Li given, looked flat in real time to me (I even commented on the thread that if the pass was good it was a good try, so saw it as a line ball) clear forward on replay, but for me, the knock was clear, I saw in real time, replay made it clearer, again, I commented at the time in the thread.

But still doesnt excuse the 60mins or so the Blues played with little enterprise or agression and allowed the canes to dictate terms.

Was surprised Tana went to his bench in the dying 5 mins though, with the game in the balance, but guess it shows he trusts his entire squad, or wants to.

By flat do you mean incompetent refs missing an obvious forward pass. Becasue if this try ahd been given it would have been a joke decision where the video ref should have been rested for a year or two

Re the knock I don't agree. He went to pick the ball up and it never left his hand. And in real time it looked perfectly ok. I agree with the video ref on this and he should be commended for making two correct decisions. (and I have agreed with poor "marginal" calls that my team have benefited from in the past but not this one)
-

Marshall has done nothing wrong and deserves to keep his FB sport. And with Barrett finally starting to find his feet again at first I would definitely leave him at first. But he need more work to control the game at first not to be shunted to FB. I would also rest Apisai regardless. He's only just turned 20 so why risk it if Coles is fit. The other young hooker has done a fine job when on.
-

well I have the same view that that TMO needs a rest after a poor call like that, the ball rolled forward on the ground, same situation where you maintain contact with the ball but it touches another player, you have lost control of the ball.

Anyway, as I said elsewhere, agree to disagree (cos we know arguing with you is a pointless exercise anyway)
-

The other hooker is 21. So if both are fit, I think you just pick the better one. I don't think either will be needing a break significantly more than the other.
-

Agreed. I think Riccitelli was very good, considering it was just his 3rd Super Rugby game and having plaid only one ITM Cup season (behind Ash Dixon).

By the way, I also agree that the TMO was right on both occasions.
-

It was Singapore wasn't it? Anyhoo, that's what you get when you force an alien team on the local populace. Anyone remember the ANBL's Singapore Slingers?
-

Sounds like everyone apart from Skudder and Proctor will be fit to tackle the Force on Friday. In that case we should have Cridge, Renton, Lloyd all available. Where are these blokes, they haven't been mentioned as being injured in any of the Canes media stories. Are they just not good enough to make the top 23?

They (or at least Cridge and Renton) were mentioned as being injured in an article back around Feb 20th and were reported as being available soon.

2015 or 2016? Come to think of it either year would be correct.

Don't be surprised if Cridge fronts up in the Hurricanes Development side in a game coming up very soon. The other two (Renton and Lloyd) must almost qualify for life membership of the Wheelchair Blacks given their almost permanent "unavailable for selection because of injury" status.

What about the also almost always non selected Iopu Iopu Aso. Has he retired or is he collecting ACC payments?
-

To be fair H Renton and Cridge are both 20 so no real need to rush them unless we hit an injury crisis. Boyd said he saw these guys as the future Read and Whitelock of the Hurricanes so we will see how good they match up when they finally hit the paddock.
