Hurricanes 2020

@Tim He could be but he is listed to play fullback for, surprise surprise, MSP up at Maidstone Park against Upper Hutt in the Swindale Shield tomorrow. Accompanying him in that particular Club side is 5 year Hurricanes contract holder Billy Proctor. It can't be much longer before the Clubs down here do not start asking questions why so many Hurricanes players seem to be allocated to such a select few clubs.

@canefan nothing against Laumape, I just think if we shift Barrett to 12 it will help this backline more than having Laumape's power running game. We need tactical playmakers on the field right now and I think having Barrett at 12 will allow him to get his hands on the ball more often.
Unless we keep Laumape on the field and chuck Barrett into 10. Could be an option.
Your team looks good.
I'd prefer to see Barrett at 12. And Laumape as an impact player maybe with (maybe) Barrett at first. Laumape hasn't been in great form so far. And hes always been a bit one dimensional (and still is) that suits an impact at the end rather than starting.
Canes defense has been awful. Goosen is a good defender so I would keep him on the wing with Aso. I would also prefer Kirifi starting at 7. Give Toalo a start and see how he goes with Lam in the reserves.
the key for me though is dropping the crap defenders (starting with Armstrong and Blackwell) and keeping the good ones. And build from there but also give the new young players game time. But not too many at once. And maybe stop selecting barely adequate players like Tiatia and Prinsep.

@Canes4life I’m glad they signed mafileo aswell looks like he has good potential, hopefully that means May is buggering off.

@mikey07 Ben May has already announced he'll retire this year.

I don't understand the hate for Ben May in the Fern. He is not the best prop NZ has produced, but not the worst either.
I don't hate him, but his Magpies use by date was a long time ago and he's blocked HB youngsters from getting starts.

Yeah, shit sticks eh. He was a bit of a joke when he came on the scene but has been a very able and handy bench prop the last 5 or so years. Definitely does a job.

@Nepia Which Magpies youngsters?
TH:
Joshia Tavita-Metcalfe? Now playing club rugby in Wellington?
Joel Hintz? Reasonable player but a hothead and card magnet.
Namatahi Waa? Not a youngster, and was shit last year.I hope the rumours are true that they've signed Taumalolo, so they can move Rakete-Stones to TH. If not, our scrum will not improve.
I also hope that Tim Farrell will be available again, to back up whoever starts at LH.
Not sure Patrick Teddy, or any other prop, is ready for NPC level.

So things like this don't happen. Hintz is just annoying, I'd rather he return to where he came from.
I await @Higgins assessment of May in this thread, @cgrant will think I'm his biggest fan in comparison, I don't dislike but as I said he's past his use by date.
-
@Stargazer what about Jayden Walker. Weren’t there big wraps on him, or is he still at school?
Also, who is Tavita-Metcalfe playing for?
-
@Canes4life Tavita-Metcalfe plays for Northern United. He's wearing the 16 jersey for them tomorrow against OBU.
I think Jayden Walker is still in HB. Not sure which club he plays for; maybe Napier Pirate? I think he's in the Magpies Academy, but - again - not sure.

Ben May - born in Blenheim, educated at Nelson College, first class debut for Nelson Bays...
Mr. Invitational XV!!!!
-
@Stargazer strange, I thought he was a prop? Out of all positions in Wellington, Hooker is probably the strongest in terms of depth. You’d think he would have stayed in the Bay, probably more chance of cracking higher honours there if he wants to be a hooker.
-
@Canes4life Yes, he's indeed a prop. I don't know why he's playing in Wellington. Maybe for tertiairy education? Or to be closer to family? I think he's originally from Levin. Or maybe he expects to have a better chance to play Mitre 10 Cup for Wellington? Have players left? Maybe they've already signed him?

Oh yeah, I'm more than happy for him to play for the Invitational XV.

@Stargazer we don't have many young props in Wellington apart from Numia & Fidow who are already in the Canes. I guess he could force his way in if he plays well enough.
I've noticed that alot of our young talent (the likes of Plumtree, Southall, Thompson, Chisholm & now Metcalfe) are all on the bench for their respective club sides. Surely the best way to develop these guys is getting them on the park.
