Hurricanes vs Sharks

The Canes aren't perfect by any stretch but when they gel they are going to put a few teams to the sword, especially now that we've figured out how to scrum. Anyone know what happened to Armstrong? He is really coming into his own at loosehead.
Really pleased with JGB and how he is going about his work. Not doing anything too fancy and is doing a good job at letting the x-factor outside him make most of the big plays.
Anyway, good signs from a team that is still finding their feet after a horror off-season. Bring on the bye.

The Sharks won't enjoy the game review.
They looked like a team that lost 7 of their 8 starting forwards from last season. Didn't have the quality to consistently stop the canes on or behind the ad line and it is pretty much impossible to win if you lose more than 50% of line out.
They also got themselves on the wrong end of the ref ito technical pens, a more street smart team would have managed the ref a lot better.
Still there is a very good side in there somewhere, but they will have keep hold of the gems and hope some quality comes through to fill the gaps (mostly in the tight five). If they sort their shit out off the pitch they should be a contender in year or two.

Didn't see what happened to Armstrong, only that he went off in the 29th minute. Good shift from Rakete-Stones, who replaced him.

Thanks for posting, I didn't see the game so good to see the highlights.
Fuck me I HATE cross kicks. I see "we" scored 2 tries off them, but either could have gone the other way, both were terrible options, creating a 50/50 chance of a try at either end.

To me another penalty under advantage, so the Canes score, to me it should still be a YC regardless of the try
What annoyed me was they had already conceded a penalty (at the previous scrum when Fiftia's try was disallowed), so should already have had a player in the bin.

How's the finishing on display from Lam and Laumape today?
Not sure if lams aground game will develop enough for international level, but there is no doubt over his finishing ability
I reckon Lam was one of the big losses to Titch's chances at the last Olympics. Is he in the mix for this one? Can't see why he'd otherwise hang around on just a Super contract. He's missed his window for the ABs I reckon. Would be happy with him in 7s.

Stupid by Coles
Will that be the only time that is posted this year?

Just had another look at last night’s game, really impressed by our front row, hopefully Armstrong’s injury isn’t serious and Lomax is a massive step up from JTA. Kirifi was outstanding over the ball and Flanders has all the skills in the book to be an excellent no 8 for us in years to come.
In the backs Barrett was an obvious standout, Lam produced a bustling display and it was also good to see Aso take his opportunity at 13. I hope they persist with that combo going forward.

Have you not seen how lazy and unfocused he is in fifteens? That doesn't translate well to 7s. We have much better players there.

@Canes4life I like the fact that they competed in line outs. I understand maybe not doing this is different field positions (close to the goal) but I prefer attacking the line out. Walker Leawere is an effective player and 22. Perhaps he has a future with ABs. Agree on the 50/50 potential outcome on the cross kicks. A bit dicey.

Barrett had a great game. And Blackwell and Princep weren't missed. Armstrong’s playing well but with PR-S on the scrum was still strong (unlike the first game when it started going backwards). But Canes need to keep all of their tight 5 fit and available so hopefully Armstrong is back soon
Garden-Bachop played well too. He will never set the field on fire but as long as he does the basics well. Which he did.
Aumua's lineout throwing was good as well. It was a strength when he first played for Wellington so hopefully as his confidence grows it will becoem a strength again

that 2nd try of the SHarks, the 9 was holding the ball about a foot off the ground for about 2 sec...wonder what the ref woulda done if one of the canes had had a crack at him!
