Its all good, anyone can coach the All Blacks and they will win 😉 But in truth this will be a really good test of the depth and natural ability of the AB's. I'm excited for the year ahead.

Analysis: Why Ian Foster needs to be given the chance to prove himself as head coach of the All Blacks

Analysis: Why Ian Foster needs to be given the chance to prove himself as head coach of the All Blacks

Foster was ahead of his time ten years ago and will do brilliantly in the top job. Unfortunately, many of the New Zealand public do not seem to agree, with many citing his head coaching role with the Chiefs as evidence.

That RugbyPass article sets out on for the "for" arguments for Foster. But not even his greatest detractor (i.e. me) thinks the man is completely without merit.

What it omits entirely is the other 90% of being a head coach -- selection (both players and support staff), management of personal issues, game preparation, dealing with the bad times etc.

I have little doubt that the 2020 ABs will turn on some master-classes in attacking rugby.

"We need to figure out how to play teams physically when they play us physically. More and more teams are wanting to prevent us from playing."

    Yes.

    Yes.

Jeez, that's some new wisdom right there. Next he'll tell us that forwards win games, you have to win the gain line, and the set piece is quite important.

@voodoo It's one thing to think it, but quite another for the coach to publicly acknowledge a critical failing of the team.

Well he had to say something other than the truth, which is you win the battle up front before you can spin it wide

I like that he was honest about it. That alone fills me with confidence that they're going to address it.

It's basically the story of the RWC semi-final loss. If he tries to harden us up then I'm all for it. Bring back some smash mouth rugby

@booboo 🤷‍♂️ You're never going to get anything tactical out of these conferences, just some generic babble speak. Not really sure why they bother at all

@Tim it is good they have addressed where the issues are, whether they can make the required changes is the key.

Although I think the way he describes it doesnt sound that good (from a coaching POV)
