There is an awful lot of petty provincial bias coming through on these boards.

    Yup it's fantastic

@Darren 100% I was super surprised myself and the fact it happened more that once. I don’t at all have a chip on my shoulder with him. My concern is that the character of a man you want running the ABs?

Interesting. I just don't know though.

i just hope Robertson doesn't get the top spot. For the good of NZ and super rugby the AB coach must select fairly from throughout the country. So players know they can get a fair go anywhere rather than having to move to the Crusaders to improve their chances. It will destroy super rugby as any good player now that doesn't make the ABs don't stick around for too long. and any team winning yr after yr gets so boring

I doubt if Robertson has the maturity (Hansen didn't at the end. Any 50/50 or even 60/40 went the Crusaders way) to not pick from his team. Hes not a Henry or Smith.. Not even close.

Out of interest do you think the head coach has final say re selections and if so what is the point of the other selectors. Surely Robertson could get a blues ex player as a selector to even out the bias.

    First it was the haircut.

    Now it's the Crusaders bias.

So we have 3 guys with international head coach experience (Joseph, Schmidt, Gatland) and all 3 have ruled themselves out (admittedly Gats a while back)

I'm just hoping Wayne Smith can be involved in any way.

All of this is a smokescreen as the selection board line up our first ex-player PI coach and the forgotten man of NZ rugby 🙂

@mofitzy_ I do wonder whether offshore coaches see NZ coaching jobs as quite the plums we think they are.

Most surprising one was having to twist Tony Brown's arm to take up the Highlanders' head coach job, when for an offshore coach who aspired to the AB's job, that would have been a decent stepping stone. And there hasn't been a rush home for any of the other Super jobs that have come up in recent times.

ABs job is a bit different, but it comes with a lot of pressure.

That's one of the reasons I think Joseph is happy to stay with Japan. Less expectations and therefore pressure.

Boy the fishing grounds really have been ravaged around here in recent past if a massive piece of bait like the ex Blues coach doesn't even get a nibble.

Yes! That's it and I bet you see that headline on Stuff or NZHerald as they are usually unable to think for themselves

    @Chris-B

And now Dave Rennie is dead to me.

I don’t see how any kiwi can coach Oz against the All Blacks - I’ll bet that the number 1 KPI is getting and holding the Bled, which means it’s the only job in the world where you are evaluated primarily on beating the one team you supposedly support and want to coach one day.

I can’t see how it ever leads to an AB coaching gig either, so it’s just joining the international ranks.

I’m going to be so fucked off if this is true**

** I’m happy to admit my hypocrisy in not really having another team (although probably England and SA - although I doubt SA would appoint a kiwi as head coach) that I would be so worked up about.
