Mitchell (37)
is he another whose name should be thrown in the ring, or did he burn too many bridges?
What about Deans?
Depending on thier contract status's would they consider it? Would NZR?

Question - is Darren Shand staying on as manager? I hope so, because we've accumulated a vast amount of IP under Henry, Hansen et al and we don't want to lose all that with a complete clean out. I'd also be pretty happy to see any of Hansen, Henry and Smith retain some involvement on a consulting basis, so that their experience can be transferred.
I'd be happy enough with either Rennie or Razor. I've paid less attention to Jamie Joseph - he seems to have taken on a few more onerous tasks, so a bit more of a checkered record of success. seems like he has had the Brave Blossoms humming and winning Super rugby with The Highlanders is no mean feat.
Razor - well he hasn't faced too much adversity in terms of lack of success, but to be honest, it's hard to see that the next AB coach will face too much adversity unless he makes an absolute pig's ear of the job. The adversity will come if we fail at the next RWC and at that point the experience will come too late. I'm less concerned about the overseas coaching thing - Razor's got a style that clearly resonates with NZ players. Don't think he really needs to spend two years losing some games coaching a British club - and he's spent time playing in Ireland, France and Japan so has some experience of how things are done differently.
Rennie - well, the worrying thing about Dave is that reading reports from Australia, it almost seems like a done deal that they've got him. So maybe I need to scratch my comment about the next AB coach not having to face too much adversity! I don't know why he'd sign up with the Wallabies when it's been well known that the AB job was coming up, but it's always kind of seemed that he's not really one of NZ rugby's favourite sons.

you would think that with him knowing the AB job was coming up, he'd have chucked in his applicaiton there too, Aus probably want him to take thie roffer but he's waiting to hear from NZR??
-
@taniwharugby You'd certainly hope so - but, I've read reports saying that Scott Johnson has already told Wallabies staff that Rennie has the job.
-
@taniwharugby No - and to be fair Chieka's seat is still warm. Hard to see that they would have run any sort of open recruitment process while he was still in place and without it being common knowledge.

I agree with what Mains had to say there
To me Robertson is a good candidate for an assistant coach. I don't want him for the head coach for the reasons Mains describes.
I can never take mains seriously. Just about the worst winning percentage of any recent AB coach. Including losing to that world XV at home. Not to mentio the French in 1994.

I'd like to see Razor, just cause I want to see a little shake up and he is probably the most diverse.
Foster would obviously be a continuation of the current selections/tactics. Robertson would probably be the next closest.
I think every other candidate would make more significant changes.
What do you mean by most 'diverse'? Robertson would have the most narrow cv?

'The All Blacks need a coach not a Laurie'
I agree. Doesn't make him wrong on everything though.. his comments on the possible coaches were spot on

Gatland would be my dream ticket with Brown as attack coach, and Robertson as forwards coach (and as apprentice to take over from Gatland in head role after 2023).
Let Gatland take a sabbatical during his British Lions year, and Robertson steps up for a year as job experience bonus.
I dont think theres any coaching IP left to be worried about Gatland taking with him on his sabbatical.

@Chester-Draws Blackadder? Whenever I hear that name I think role player and plodder, kind of like a draught horse. We need dynamic big and strong players at international level.
Smiley Barrett was a role player and plodder, kind of like a draught horse...

Whoever the next AB coach is, I don't wnat to see this sort of puerile crap.
"England's Eddie Jones hits back at Gatland: 'Enjoy the third-place play-off'"
See I don’t really mind that. Maybe I’ve been living in OZ too long and Eddie’s just doing what Eddie does (and many Aussie coaches would respond). But a bit of colour in return when someone has taken a swipe isn’t that bad.
