@voodoo thanks for your considered response. I agree that you can’t just let teams cynically go for fouls to win the game, knowing they can cover the penalty later. But think about this: If a valued player infringes at a red card level, he doesn’t come back. He’s off. He’s replaced but there’s no guarantee the replacement is of a similar quality. He also faces a judicial panel afterwards who may apply additional sanctions. I think this is sufficient to achieve what you desire, which is fewer professional fouls.

Been a while since I watched England but they are going to be very hard to beat. Strong pack, organised defense and they even have a couple of players that are a threat with ball in hand. They'll also take confidence from this game despite the card.
They'll take confidence, but England still look too defensive for me. A big game is won on two or three chances, and they don't look comfortable taking risks in those situations.
England look as unconvincing as their supporters in the crowd. They look like they were just told they were saving 10 cents on their dinner tonight (The supporters that is).

I agree but with Argentina being knocked out now, Jones could rest a lot of his starters against France. France beating Argentina in that first game has given England this option.

I agree but with Argentina being knocked out now, Jones could rest a lot of his starters against France. France beating Argentina in that first game has given England this option.
this is very true - hadn't considered that angle - but a win tonight doesn't mean they top the pool does it. Plus a loss to France, puts them into a quarter with Wales compared to Australia. They want and need to win the pool.

Will the constant red cards change the behaviour long term? I really don't think so, rugby is a full contact sport where the players are trying to make dominant tackles.
Of the 5 red cards so far in the tournament how many of the players meant to conduct foul play?
The current system basically ruins the game and as a paying customer I would be unhappy.
Look at the NRL, they penalise the player after the game in terms of suspension, they don't penalise the entire team and change the result.
I know old mate has a poor record but I highly doubt he meant to ruin the chances of his entire team.

Yeah, that's true. If they want to avoid Wales then they will start their 1stXV against France. Wonder if they really care though about who they play in the 1/4 as Australia won't be an easy proposition either. This way they avoid us (most likely) in the semi and it helps to prevent their players from fatiguing.
