Her comments came when a request from the Highlanders Super Rugby organisation, to end an agreement with the council, was put to the committee.
Highlanders chief executive Roger Clark met with both the council chief executive Clare Hadley and finance and policy chairperson Darren Ludlow in June to ask for the partnership to end a year early. In 2016 the council agreed to act as a guarantor for the Highlanders for up to $500,000. The partnership did not end up costing ratepayers anything. In return, the Highlanders brought a game each year to Invercargill.
Ludlow said Clark advised them request was financial, given the Highlanders could attract more money elsewhere.
Where? Queenstown? Wanaka?

@Canes4life Gregory is a weird one as it'll be his first year in SR but will only be there til March. Suppose they want a gold medal.

@KiwiMurph Entirely predictable though. As soon as the Blues, Chiefs, Hurricanes and Highlanders signed these players, you could expect them to be unavailable for most of the 2020 season. None of the Crusaders players has played for the AB7s, so obviously there was less chance that they would opt to play for a spot in the Olympic squad.

@taniwharugby Just means the Landers will still need a cover for him when he's gone.
