Who would you drop for Pattinson?

Have 4 pacemen + the GOAT. Win the toss and bowl, rip England out for 150 then hope we can do it from there.

That backfires, drop the worst paceman and dig in.

Cummins is a decent bat, but not sure he's good enough play 7 just yet mate. I guess he wouldn't be worse that some of the guys that have played there.

5 bowlers and 2 keepers would be some out of the box thinking.

Overkill. Just need 3 seamers and a spinner to get through this English lineup.

If I was Aus, I wouldn't even bugger about with the allrounder at 6 malarkey they've been doing with Labuschagne and M Marsh etc. Pick 6 batsmen. England will pass 400 only once in the potential 10 digs this series at most - no matter who you pick.

I think I heard on recent TMS podcast during the Irish test that England have passed 400 only 1 in their last 20 odd test innings.

Probably my favourite equal sporting event. I love the Ashes in England.

Someone suggested it will be 3-2, that would make it one of the greatest series ever but I think we will lose at lease one match to rain

Gotta agree with you there. Even as a neutral it is such good viewing.

Remember this ? always good to see a couple of my more favourite cricketers having a go at eachother......

I love that clip. Heaps of hate and passion, no one got hurt and it made for a heightened contest.

Hopefully that will be Broad and Warner!

KP was a wicked batsman back in the day, so good to watch when in form and MJ was so fiery ( and also a great player ).

Not sure anyone today would compare for me personally.

Doesn't need to be that good if we're pinging the bastards out for under 200.

Many ways to skin a cat.

Looking forward to the Ashes. I have always gone for England. I’ll still be supporting them, but I dislike this OZ team less than previous ones.

There you go mate, Pattinson and Cummins are definites, leaving Hazlewood, Starc and Siddle to battle for the other spot. Tipped to be Hazlewood (absolutely the right call).

    I'm tipping England 3-1.

If the series is played in fine weather (hypothetically), then no game goes beyond day 4. Neither batting line-up is particularly impressive, and I suspect there will be a fair few games decided by one big individual score.

I think we will revert back to our old selves, struggling for runs on green decks against the moving ball. There will be a lot of pressure on Smith to be back to his 'old self', but I don't think he's there yet. I can't see big contributions out of Khawaja and Travis Head, and thus we will be 5/120 more often than not.

England's batting looks equally flimsy, but I give them the edge in home conditions. Ben Stokes is class and looks primed for a big series. Woakes and Broad are solid and can be brilliant in the right environment. Archer is also great, though his fitness is questionable.

I think our bowling is good enough to have England in trouble, but our bats might not be good enough to take advantage.

Do you think Davey will take any confidence in dealing with the conditions into the series from his decent CWC form (appreciating different format, ball etc.)?

@junior reckon Davey and Smith are going to go great guns. Expecting root and stokes to get amongst the runs also. Suspect oz have a better all round attack with not much between their top pace men. Unsure if England can return fire although their opening bowlers are fire.

Ashes is just so good!! Test cricket is such a great game!

I think he will, though I don't expect him to be as dominant as he was in the CWC. If we bat first tonight it will be fascinating to see how he plays it.

A part of me thinks he will get out slogging in the fourth over, when he's on 22 (9), and the score is 0/23.

I'm going to predict 3-1 to Australia.

England poor top order, and have a hunch Bairstow and Ali also losing some form so fewer lower order bail outs.

We won the toss and will bat.

    Therefore I'm not watching.

Warner survives a caught behind that wasn't reviewed, then is out LBW which would have been not out if reviewed....

@Donsteppa to be fair, it's partly his own fault for batting so far down the pitch. The umpire will be judging him based on where a normal stance would be.

I was surprised that Lloyd and Botham were so confident with the Warner lbw. It looked to be missing leg stump to me with that angle.

Bancroft caught by Root off Broad.
