TRC: The All Blacks against the Springboks (version 98)

Hands up those of you able to remember 1991?
A stellar team for the ages 4 years ago still packed with a spine of greats, a little bit rusty leading into it but, it'll be alright in October, " just look at the talent and experience "...
I don't get how our gameplans of the last 18 months or so, gives us the best chance of winning on any given day.
Are we always going to battle and out-cute " balls to the wall" psycho rush defences or are we one day going to go up the guts for 5 phases, once, in a game?
Greatest powder dry ruse in the history of professional sport? 🤨

Lots of 1991 echos.

@Stargazer difference is that BB has delivered against sides like SA at ten. Three months before a WC is not time to develop a ten who’s not ready yet.
Yes, but BB has also had a lot more games in his career. BB is the best fullback we have. Full stop. It definitely isn't Jordie, and BFA has been quite disappointing thus far, too.
I agree that 3 months before a RWC is short, but we have no better option than RM-BB as a 10-15 combo.
And RM wasn't half as bad as some people are saying.

@Kirwan Mo'unga's had it easy at SR level where he's always playing on the front foot. He'll take a good lesson out of tonight but needs to learn quickly on how to play when his forwards are going backwards. So far he just looks like a flat track bully like his mate George Bridge who needs to learn some defence.
-
@Jaguares4real I think we are not showing too Much and working through combos and small movements in the direction we want to play
A few world cups ago we smashed everyone leading up to the WC and didn’t get the job done at WC time
Maybe we have learnt from that and are slowly building -
@Machpants dude that's my delusional exhibit A propping up my powder dry glimmer of hope!
We never seem to look to "earn" yards or field position, an all black strength historically. Very little forward play as I can see. All seems vulnerable to a psycho defence and a decent kicking five eight
-
BFA played pretty well, but as previously mentioned, he isn't fast enough for a winger anymore. Read and SBW are well past their use-by dates, but can't be dropped, so the rest of the team selection needs to make up for that.
In that we never know which pair of kicking boots BB is gonna put on each game, I'd be more comfy if RM did that duty. Bit gutted for BBBR. Huge blow if he's out. -

@Kirwan I think BB would have struggled at 10 tonight.
He’s handled this sort of pressure before, and he was our best player today, so I don’t accept that.
Difference too in SR where he doesn’t get the front foot ball that Richie is used to. A whiff of being a flat track bully about him.

BB was our best player today playing at fullback. That doesn't mean he would have played well at 10, tonight.

@Machpants Or other Teams have developed really professional programs and this is the new reality for NZ rugby?
