Hurricanes 2020

@Jaguares4real Can you shut the f... up about the bloody Jaguares? Go start your own thread about how much you love them. You could even list all the Arg rugby posters you have on your bedroom wall in there.
I even thought of a title for it.
Jaguares. To infinity and beyond!

We are well covered in the midfield. Its a first 5 (I still believe Jordie could possibly be VG at 1st). I.d still like another good lock (Blackwell its still a mystery to me why he's rated so highly). And at least one more quality prop
And if we had to lose one of Perenara or Barrett. It would be Barrett. But its a strange decision for BB to make. It must be an issue with the coaches and if this is the case then its sadly best he goes. Plumtree needs his team that relates to and likes him or his approach even if it includes plodders like Blackwell. And Prinsep. Get his team in place (as Hammett did) and see how it goes. I doubt if its a super rugby winner as it wasn't with Wellington but like Wellington the team will do well but never quite make it.

Plumtree has a liking for plodders.
So Canes are unlikely he will aim high at first five. Maybe try to turn Fletcher Smith into a super rugby first. A lost cause but still. JGB had a VG game vs the Blues but he's too inconsistent. The issue is if JB leaves as well its not a good look for the Canes. Lossing two ABs who stay in NZ but leave for another team. I wonder if Plumtree is rubbing a certian type of player up the wrong way. Jordie looks a slightly moody type and maybe he just doesn't know how to handle these types of players. I remember reading somewhere that Tana wasn't too impressed with the way Plumtree (or at least I think it was Plumtree) talked to players
ok found it

Umaga also tackles respected coaches John Plumtree and Bryan Williams, saying Plumtree enjoyed humiliating players in front of teammates and that Williams was not "up to speed" with the modern game.To be fair Tana whinged and complained about a lot of people in his book.
... he ranks up there with Norm Hewitt in the biggest cry baby list.
Plum did an excellent job in SA for the Sharks & has a god rap in Ireland where he made significant improvements to their pack
Tana did all right in 3rd tier of rugby
But he's been garbage at Super Rugby level to the point he is now a glorified water boy
Tana should be grateful for being employed period

They thrashed the Canes by a massive 8 points though.

@Jaguares4real
Plumtree would be an excellent assistant AB coach. He just lacks a bit (and hes almost there) as a head coach. And this slight lack means he's always close but never nails it. Its a shame really. Lam is one example. He prefers him to Goosen. Goosen is a great defender. Lam is crap. Both are good on attack. And its these types of small weird decisions that makes a difference between winning. And not quite winning.

Congrats to the Canes who scored a consolation try in 81st minute to give final score a flattering look
28-13 was more reflective of the dominance the Jagaures showcased in the game
Here are some key pointers as some game details might have eluded your memory
Stevie Wonder would have been more accomplished with his lineout throws than Aumua
Laumape getting trampled in the lead up to a Jaguares try in 2nd half
J Marshall being god awful Canes would have been better with 14 men

@Jaguares4real it's good to have diverse and opposing views. That's all Im going to say.

I hope that McClutchie is going to have a great season for the Magpies again this year. And that the Hurricanes selectors will notice and sign him. The Canes need to develop a good young 10, not just sign one from outside to fill the gap left by BB.
I wonder whether Mitch Hunt is really going to the Highlanders ...
-
@Stargazer McClutchie's problem is that he isn't a recognised goal-kicker which probably went against him for the NZ U20s too. Sure, there isn't a rule that the 1st 5 needs to be the goal-kicker but more often than not they are. Adding that skill would help him.

@Bovidae He's been kicking at goal during the club rugby season, this year; I think also during the preseason games ( @Number-10 can you confirm?). I think the kicking duties for the Magpies will be shared between him and Toala.
Yep, McClutchie kicked three conversions in both pre-season matches this year against Ta$man and Manawatu.
Was also the top try scorer for the HB Under 19 team last year with 8 - 4 in the Hurricanes tournament (3 matches) and 4 in the Jock Hobbs tournament ( 3 matches) and shared the goalkicking with Danny Toala.

Reports say the Canes are looking offshore at potential BB replacements also. Lima Sopoaga is one name that is around. I wonder if they might look at that Kiwi 10 playing for the Sunwolves as well? I know he can kick goals but am unaware if he is any good. Lima will have to stop eating all the pies if he wants to be back in super rugby shape

@canefan Hayden Parker is already under contract at Kobelco Steelers.
Yeah. The report said they may be about to sign Aaron Cruden, and that might motivate them to release him. All big ifs
