CWC Game #9 Black Caps v England

Kane is a super calm, quiet captain who absolutely leads from the front. Which would be great if his senior players didn't keep letting him down. This tournament has been so incredibly frustrating, because so often it's been the experienced guys who have been shit. Guptill, Latham, glaring at you. Munro is a stopgap opener. Nicholls was managed VERY poorly. Blundell never even got a chance with the gloves or bat, despite Latham being average. The stat of us having the lowest runs by the openers should be a five alarm bell ringer.
In all honesty, Kane and Neesham have been the standouts. Honourable mention to Lockie. Boult on occasion, but he has been a lot quieter this CWC than I was expecting. One other aspect that has sucked, has been our fielding. In the past we had far less talent, but we boxed above our weight because we were absolute tigers in the field. We took the catches. Saved the runs. Smashed the stumps. Yes some chances have been tough, but fark we've missed some sitters as well, and not one or two but LOTS.
We should be playing a lot better in English conditions, but we just aren't. -

Not sure if Stead has any clue. Young hit three centuries against Australia and they didn't pick him, but went with the out of form Munro instead. Sure he had surgery lined up, but that could have been postponed.
Young wasn't able to throw in those games so wasn't fielding. Delaying the surgery wasn't an option.

I think we're underestimating Mccullum leadership. No disrespect to kane but the 2015 team was similarly talented but baz had them thinking they were world beaters.
This team is quite meek
I've always been the first to say that the 2015 side was historically a bit overrated relative to other CWC teams - but there is no way this side is anywhere as good as 2015 especially with the ball.
Boult is a shade off what he was. Southee is a shell of himself (Henry is not an adequate replacement), Vettori while not at his peak was a reliable spin option whose batting balanced the order. Ferguson is outperforming Milne as first change slightly. If Boult takes tap early Kane's only positive option is Ferguson and after that he has nothing. He doesn't even have a Harris/Larsen type who can at least tie up an end somewhat. McCullum could get to about the 20 over mark getting smashed as a fielding captain before exhausting his options whereas Kane would be done after Santner goes for 15 in the 9th over.
With the bat I would say we a slightly lower level level but different - if we got any production at all out of the Munro/Nicholls spot this summer I would say even with.

@Donsteppa I kinda get it. Fuck the cricket, it's been a bit shit. Why not ignore it for a few days and just roll up for the semi. Everyone knows you get better if you don't train. Besides it's only the world cup.
No pressure, no expectatoins - too easy bro
We're now well placed for the Colins to smash a collective 150 off 100, and we get 350, then roll the Aussies with some filthy medium pace. Can't wait

I dont rate Stead as a coach/selector and think the Black Caps could be heading for some dark times.
Yep. I wasn't happy when he was chosen as Hesson's replacement. Bradburn was my choice. At least he knows how to coach a team to beat England.
We need to find a better batting coach than the departing McMillan too.
I didn't see any of the match after checking the current score when getting home late last night (161/1 IIRC). Entirely predictable when I heard the result this morning.
If it's going to be Aust In the SF show some fuckin' aggression and take the game to them - win or lose.
need some motherfuckers to channel one CZ Harris from 1996. Actually Germon too. That's about digging in and giving yourself a chance even when things have started disastrously.
We lost that :(. Mark Waugh.

Good bit of banter on the radio this morning - you've got the ability to add any NZ player from any era into the team. Who would it be and why? who do they come in for?
I agreed with Jason Pine and opted for Bond. Nato had Hadlee and Kent was plugging for Astle. I know we are desperate for runs at the moment but at least a bowler can give you 10 overs.. unless he's getting spanked of course.
Discuss.

@Paekakboyz An opener who doesn't farking suck.

It'd have to be Crowe for me, our batting has been diabolical. Crowe, Kane & Rosco would at least score enough runs each game to make us competitive.

BMac! Any day of the week. He would strengthen the top order and would lead in the field and wouldn't drop catches or muff up runouts.

Flem.
Great captain. Best World Cup innings by a New Zealander. Both things we need.

I'm not much of a cricket fan, but it has to be Hadlee or Bond right? Restricting the oppositions runs is better than having a batsmen who might need to chase big runs on his own.

@Donsteppa I'm getting flashbacks to a certain event that didn't happen in 2007.
“Just a quick holiday with the WAGS in the south of France”...
