The first job of the keeper is to take catches. We've compromised on keeping ability on the ground of batting ability, and haven't got the batting either.

The way the current squad has been selected and managed, Blundell will probably be brought in cold into a semi final...

I dont rate Stead as a coach/selector and think the Black Caps could be heading for some dark times.

Yep. I wasn't happy when he was chosen as Hesson's replacement. Bradburn was my choice. At least he knows how to coach a team to beat England. 🤣

We need to find a better batting coach than the departing McMillan too.

I didn't see any of the match after checking the current score when getting home late last night (161/1 IIRC). Entirely predictable when I heard the result this morning.

If it's going to be Aust In the SF show some fuckin' aggression and take the game to them - win or lose.

I went to bed after Kane got out.

To come to the defense of the Caps a little bit, Nicholls was given out LBW when it was missing (why didn't he review? Didn't look out live), Guppy was strangled down the leg side, and Kane was runout by a tin-arse finger tip right when he was building a partnership with Rosco. Those were pretty unlucky dismissals and basically killed our run chase before it started.

need some motherfuckers to channel one CZ Harris from 1996. Actually Germon too. That's about digging in and giving yourself a chance even when things have started disastrously.

A streaker provided some entertainment that the Black Caps lacked for the Chester-le-Street crowd in New Zealand's heavy World Cup defeat to England this m

To go back to the sky falling in 🙂 the first two dismissals come from one guy lacking in match play not reading it, and Guppy seeing it like a marble (TM @Mokey) both for his own dismissal and in not suggesting a review.

I think we're underestimating Mccullum leadership. No disrespect to kane but the 2015 team was similarly talented but baz had them thinking they were world beaters.

    This team is quite meek

Kane is definitely more passive. Whereas mccullum was a swashbuckler

@canefan just listening to baz in the commentary, stay in the over, walk tall,(guppy) show your leadership, ( timmy) etc.

Little things sure but hopefully we've all played sport with different captains. The best ones make you feel better than you are and that translates in performance.

That non review of Nicholls was a symptom of a lack of surety and boldness. Looked well high in real time.

But overall, fuck those guys! A world cup, the pinnacle of your work and it looks like many have just phoned it in. Boult being furious throughout is another symptom.

As for the fucken women! Despite this inclusive nonsense, there's a time for a focussed work stint of 6 weeks once every 4 fucking years isn't there? Holiday afterwards?

Don't mind being narrowly outplayed in a game but jesus, show something at the big dance

    Not happy

Best players don’t always make the best captains. The burden certainly hasn’t effected his form personally though.

Must say I think kane is a good skipper, and his performance in all matters has been exemplary.

Maybe not though? I mean he’s first name down as a player but does this gloss over the fact he’s not that good?

In cricket, teams are often a reflection of their captain's personality. Kane is the polar opposite to Baz.

Does anyone have any general insight into Stead's character type? McCullum and Hesson seemed be be perfect foils for each other as a captain and coaching duo. I only have a vague impression of Stead from what I remember of his playing days tho.

kane is not yet a great captain, but he's not bad either. to be averaging 100+ and get run out off a deflection and be blamed for the absolute slop dished up by most of the batsmen and the most experienced bowler in southee is a bit fucking rough.

@MN5 Kane's captaincy isn't the problem here, the players not playing for their captain is. He sets enough examples
