2020 All Blacks Squad

@Chester-Draws I may have been one of his biggest detractors last year 😉 but even I think he’s looked good this year - so I’m unsure why the Highlanders selectors replaced him with the “safe”* Lucky Luke.
- Which is I assume is redefined as misses tackles and gives away stupid penalties now.
-
@Chester-Draws Kaino was an athlete type player.

Duh me. I missed out that Frizzell was tough enough already.

No he wasn't. He wasn't fast (compared to young Messam he was slow). He wasn't fabulous in the air, winning strings of lineouts and kickoffs. He wasn't nimble. When you think of him, what special athletic powers did he have others striving for his position don't?
He was a hard man who hit hard and made few mistakes. He was fit. He had a bit of explosive power, but it didn't translate into many line breaks, for instance.
No-one doubts his worth. But he was no more naturally athletic than any of his competitors.
-
Which Kaino are we talking about? 2004 Kaino was an athlete - he added the hard later and got his place from 2008, becoming god-like from about 2011.

@gt12 exactly.
Young Kaino was a serious athlete.
I believe it was 2004 on debut ABs v Barbarians at Twickenham that Kaino went in and around Mat Rogers to score?
Spent all day embarrassing him. Glorious.

Hang on am I reading this right ? In order to become a great blindside you have to lose your athleticism?

If thats the case I would have been a superlative blindside.
I think you read it wrong.

Well no I’m not. Apparently you can’t be tough and an athlete at the same time.
-
@Chester-Draws yeah but nah, incorrect. You're missing a fair chunk of his career as others have politely pointed out.
-
Wouldn't be surprised to see Ennor an All Black in 2020, if not before.
-
I really like Ennor, but I cannot see how he can break into the AB's this year short of some significant injuries. His point of difference is that he can play both wings, fullback and centre. Being able to play both wings is handy but not that rare. But centre is one of the challenging positions in the game, and being able to play 13 as well is a valuable trait.
-
With Reece and Bridge probably securing a seat for Japan, and with the likes of Leicester Fainganuuku and Will Jordan looming, the All Blacks will have plenty of options in the wings. That is why I'd like Rieko Ioane to become a centre as Goodhue will likely play most of his games for the Crusaders next year as a 2nd five in order to let the 13 jersey to Ennor. A backline like this one could be deadly : B. Barrett - Reece - Ioane - Goodhue (or ALB) - Bridge - Mounga.
