Players are going to the strangest places. Bas Visinia is now playing in Hong Kong for Hong Kong FC Rugby in their domestic Premiership competition. Former Magpie Tom Stanley is playing for the same club. Visinia made his debut last weekend and scored two tries.

Tom Stanley didn't go there for rugby. He now works for a US bank who shipped him out there.

At no other point, work, sport anything, have I ever seen two-heads work.

Yeah it is almost always a recipie for disaster. Massively clutching at straws, but because I have a passing interest in it only two NHL teams have won the Stanley Cup without a captain, both were early 70's Boston Bruin teams (and while there wasn't an official captain having one of the top 5 players of all time essentially gives you a de facto captain). Currently 6/31 teams don't have one - which is about the norm historically, generally if there is a vacuum they will leave it vacant until an obvious choice surfaces.

Waratahs Nick Phipps and Curtis Rona will both leave for the northern hemisphere come the end of the 2019 Super Rugby season.

The pair have both signed two year deals with English club London-Irish.

    Surely post RWC? (Assuming selection)

@booboo The web article it was pasted from did not clarify that but I would guess so.

Geez, I really hope this rumour isn't true. If we lose both Retallick and Whitelock, we're doomed.

Owen Franks reportedly going to Northampton.

We're going to be hurt after this RWC - quite badly if we lose people like Retallick.

Did you read the article? It suggests Retallick is likely to only go for one or two years.

I've been of the opinion for a while that Rettalick and Read are the difference makers in our pack (Whitelock to a slightly lesser extent), and if one, or god help us both, of those guys are a bit off, we drop back in quality a bit. If this is true we face the possibility of having neither even playing any more, then we are suddenly nothing more than a decent international pack.

A pretty good front row stock; as it stands now nothing in the 2nd row; and a collection of pretty underwhelming loose forwards and maybe Sam Cane.

Owen Franks to Northampton Saints makes sense. Ben Franks is there. Club with lots of Kiwi connections. After a decade in Black, it is a guess of thank you and good luck. I hope Northampton's weights room is open on Christmas Day and they have a large supply of protein shakes.

Sale Sharks have been trying to sign a world-class lock for a while. They missed out on Joe Launchbury and Francisco Mostert last year. They have money to spend.

If the NZRU board get outbid on Brodie Retallick it says to me they no longer have ambition for the All Blacks to be best in the world. Lurch is the best forward in the world and a once in a generation Lock. Time for the NZRU to make him a reward he can't refuse

They have to make him one of the highest one or few ABs I reckon. If they did that at least they've given it a good shot

I remember Colin Meads' funeral when Stan Meads said he and Pinetree thought Brodie Retallick was the best Lock New Zealand had produced in more than 40 years. No higher endorsement to my mind. Time to offer Lurch the sort money McCaw or Carter were on.

They'll have some coin freed up with Read and Frank's departing.

Sometimes it ain't all about the money....

I thought Read was interested in staying? Either way they probably don't have to match the NH offers. But a strong offer is required

I think a one year sabbatical with a big NZ contract on return is more likely, as little as I like it.
